I see a little too much fault trying to be laid at Mr. Ca$hmans feet here.. I understand Pineda came into camp over weight, the stories keep changing from 10, 20, and now 30 pounds.. Who really knows if he wasn't being monitored ?? It looks like more blame should be laid at the feet of the coaches, trainers or who ever is in control of the players getting into shape.. Mr. Ca$hman is the GM, but I think it's more then just being a hands on Dr., Coach, instructor etc. ?? To me that's what you pay strength and conditioning coaches and people like that for... If Pineda came into camp out of shape it  was the coaches part to get his butt in shape before injuring him in the process... Not Mr. Ca$hman's...

CC last year kept putting weight on, there was a time that he looked as huge as a Mack Truck. I am of the belief that CC underachieved during the Champioship series against Detroit. Had he won once, the Yanks would have moved to the World Series Round. I understand that befoe he signed his new contract  after he alsmot opted out, there was something said about his weight. I don't know if they stipulated any particular weight, but if they didn't they are idiots.

LOL!  you beat me to it!  that's the first thing that popped in my head when I read the first sentence....  next thing we'll be hearing is that Pineda isn't hurt, he just left the team to be on 'The Biggest Loser'...

I think you heard right. lol  The thing is, Seattle wanted the kid to report to camp early this year, the 3rd week in January to get in shape.  He should have mentioned that to the Yankees.  George would have fired Cashman over this one, no doubt in my mind.

actually if George was still around the Pineda for Montero trade would never have been made because as soon as the Mariners turned down the Lee deal George would have probably dumped Montero somewhere else for a guy like Livan Hernandez.....

Don't insult Cashman.  He has a secret plan up his sleeve.  1 ring in 12 years with the best resources in sports = he deserves a lifetime contract AND MOST OF ALL if you dare criticize him you're out of line.

Yeah, the boss. He wanted to trade Jeter and Mo. And he tried to trade Pettitte in 1999. Please. The Boss.

I know the Boss wouldn't stand for it but I won't praise him 100%. He viewed Mo as nothing more than trade bait at the start and had to be talked out of trading him several times.

I have a question Loon....what was your position at the time of the trade. I didn't see too many wanting to fire Cash when he made this trade. Most people were saying Cash made a good deal, almost as though he robbed the Mariners. Where did all those people go.

I thought it was a good deal at the time, and I stand by that now.  This was more about the future then just this year.  With Pineda and Campos the Yankees have two guys who could be future impact arms in the rotation.  You have to give to get, and Montero was a valuable piece that made the deal possible.  The Yankees didn't need a DH for the next few years, and obviously didn't believe he was going to be a ML catcher.

Exactly my thoughts, Lola. In fact, I couldn't see Seatle making that trade. Thought it was a mistake.

NC...
