Nobody had pitched "worse" than Freddy. Here's how you manage him: forget he exists. Unless you're down 15-0 by the 3rd inning. Hughes can either improve or go to the pen. He's probably better as a short man anyway.

Hughes does have a little life, he's got a option and he can go to the BP.. Garcia is about to run out of life, he's got no where to go but out the door...

Here's a question to ask....

If Hughes was pitching well, would Yankees allow more time for Garcia to turn things around?  Having two struggling pitchers in the rotation is a difficult dilemma.  A likely two automatic "L" in addition to compromising the bullpen lead to Garcia's demotion before situation gets out of hand.

I bet if Hughes wasn't struggling, Yankees might give another game or two for Garcia.  As the weather heats up maybe we see some improvements.

As it stands Hughes/Garcia would burn out the pen in the weeks ahead if a move was not made.

Something had to be done. A burnt bullpen will always come back to bite you in the butt. The 2011 Boston Red Sox and 2011 Rangers are proof of that.

I highly doubit it Lauren  IMO ..Freddie showed just nothing not a thing and showed no signs of improving and why hes even going to the bullpen is a mystery to me....I dont think hes going to be that stopper the Yanks are looking for...Freddie is really bad this season and age is creeping...Hughes on the other hand has moments at least where he gets an out or two...I see the bullpen eventually for Phil .....That is one flat bastball he has there..

One struggling pitcher is certainly not going to stress the pen as two struggling starters will.  I'm suggesting if Garcia was alone in his struggles, Yankees might provide a long string to see if Garcia could get out from under when the temperature rises.

I didnt interpret Freddie remarks about the Yankees wanting to "win now" et al to mean anything more than him, ceding, that he's sucked, and that the moves are justified. IMO his remarks were indicaative of his taking the moves like a pro thats been in MLB as long as he has. I didnt read into his remarks ANY finger poinitng, or critique at the Yanks, at all.

Hey Joe, hope you had a nice weekend.  I didn't read anything into it either. I think he's very frustrated and embarrassed. He doesn't have 100% command of the English language and sometimes can't express himself properly.
