The shift doesn't work on 3 pop ups and 2 K's.Wink

What's up Doc!!  Good to see you in the boards.  I agree.  I think the Yankees are very happy with Tex and what he provides both offensively and defensively.  I'm sure they would like to change his hitting into the shift, but I don't think they want to mess with him much.

They can't say their disappointed but paying him every year over 20 mil I think they expected more then a . 250 avg. in 2010 and .240 avg. in 2011. If he hit in the postseason that would help but I doubt they are thrilled with these BA's. If he keeps this up he's closer to Carlos Pena then Fielder. He talked up the need to go the other way more which I was impressed to see from Fielder  but as Old mentioned he had a couple of at bats yesterday with men on base with outside pitches and he pulled the ball. If that continues he will be in the .240's again. Not what they signed him for those big bucks.

I'm sure the Angels are having a panic attack with Pujlos.

I've been very critical of Tex, but I asked myself, SELF, is it better to have Tex hit .250/30/110 or .300/15/ 80? I think the Yankees paid him a lot of money for the former. Yes it would be nice if he hit for a higher average, but it is what it is.

I'm sure Pujols will start hitting, but your right the Angel FO has some beads of sweat on their brow. Actually, it could be said they're having a panic attack with the whole team. They've beenj shutout 4 times already and their pitching has stunk.

Luv I just think he's thick. He talked it up about going the other way and admitted he has to hit better in the postseason. I've heard the former players on the YES crew say he should be able to go the other way. This isn't the player they signed up for or he was his 1st season here. Ted Williams was thick also but he hit .340 with the shift back then.

I have to give Swisher credit because he really does try to improve himself each season and will to change what needs to be fixed. Tex after the last 2 seasons should not be so content and losing weight wasn't the problem. Hit the ball the other way once in a while. Ortiz and Fielder can I think he should be able to and if not it will be the same or worse this season and if they make the postseason.

Cabrera and Fielder both beat the shift 3-4 times each by going opposite field in that series , Yank.  The difference between him and Fielder, Cabrera, Ortiz, etc. is that they wait for the right pitch to hit a HR, and go opposite when it isn't their pitch, as opposed to Tex who seems to be swinging for the fences every time AB.

i wonder if tex sits with video of him from 2007 and video of his current swing and simply tries to mimick what he used to do. that would be nice. the same thing happened to fatgiambi but i thought jason's was based on injury more so. it's puzzling. tex went from an elite player to an average player for his position.

He has gotten pull happy, he said during spring training that he wanted to try and go the other way more often.... He has a little bit.  Maybe he will go the other way on the road and pull at home.
