You're being logical..stop that!! As for Cashman..you can't babysit someone 24/7. It was his responsblity to stay in shape, not Cashman's.

you cant baby sit them 24 hours a day but you sure as hell can make sure they dont sit back and gain over 20 pounds , i mean they were able to make sure cc stayed in shape this past off season, so why couldnt they monitor pineda?

20 lbs on a guy Pineda's size is NOT that big a deal.... This whole thing is being blown out of proportion.... suprise, surprise. It happened.... Pitchers get injured all the time. CC's in shape? Really.... He's as big as a house..... he also responsible for his own physical condition.

It's the players responsibility to stay in shape.  I've read that Seattle was going to bring Pineda to early ST in the 3rd week in January this spring.  Did the kid not tell Cashman and the Yankees that ?  Maybe if the Yankees had brought him in that early he would have been in pitching shape when he should have been.  I'm not blaming Cashman for him being out of shape, but it is a point.

If the yanks can require that cc lose weight why couldnt they atleast monitor pineda before spring training?

The funny thing with his whole weight issue is that it was 1st reported that he was only 10 pounds overweight.  Later it came out it was 20 pounds, and last week 30 pounds.  Somebody wasn't being totally honest with the media about this.  He must have packed the weight on between his physical and when he reported to ST.  As big as he and CC are they probably put weight on just looking at food. lol

again if the yanks can  make cc's weight an issue in his extension and we know they did why coudnt they atleast monitor pineda before he came to ST?   to say they couldnt do anything about pineda's conditioning in the off season is just plain dumb.

10 or 20 lbs on 6'7'' guys is hardly noticeable... Pineda didn't appear to be dangerously overweight when he came to camp, we've seen alot worse, ie Boomer Wells. I think being overweight is more likely to have a negative effect on the back or knees, not a shoulder.  ... this whole notion of trying to blame Cashman is ridiculous.

Somebody's head must roll. Ask Murray Cook what happened to him when the yanks lost Tim Belcher.

Once again, perhaps it's not the weight but it is the mind set. You get traded to a new team in the biggest market in the world, you're 23 years old, wouldn't you want to make a positive impression? I don't understand the mind set. 23 and out of shape for a proffessional athlete just seems so wrong to me. It's not Cashman's responsibility imo it's the least a player should do. Stay in shape and play hard. That's up to the player to do, other things like injury are out of their control.

i have to disagree , you trade the best prospect you have had in over 10 years for a stud pitcher . you better make sure the guy is  in shape when he reports to ST . i mean it was known that seattle wanted him to report early for st , so why couldnt cashman atleast make sure the kid reported early for st?
