Once again, perhaps it's not the weight but it is the mind set. You get traded to a new team in the biggest market in the world, you're 23 years old, wouldn't you want to make a positive impression? I don't understand the mind set. 23 and out of shape for a proffessional athlete just seems so wrong to me. It's not Cashman's responsibility imo it's the least a player should do. Stay in shape and play hard. That's up to the player to do, other things like injury are out of their control.

You would hope a professional athelete would want to be in the best physical condition possible.... especially with millions of dollars at stake. Again Pineda's a big guy.... I'm not a trainer but he didn't appear to be that out of shape.... but, what do I know. I'm just a fan sitting behind a computer.

As am I Lola. I have to admit that I wouldn't have know Pineda before Spring Training but I honestly said to myself that he looked awful soft. I was surprised that the first indications were that he was only supposed to be 10 lbs overweight. Here's hoping that the surgery went great and he reaches his immense potential. I wish the same for Montero also (except against the Yankees). I wished we could have kept him

It's the players responsibility to stay in shape.  I've read that Seattle was going to bring Pineda to early ST in the 3rd week in January this spring.  Did the kid not tell Cashman and the Yankees that ?  Maybe if the Yankees had brought him in that early he would have been in pitching shape when he should have been.  I'm not blaming Cashman for him being out of shape, but it is a point.

If the yanks can require that cc lose weight why couldnt they atleast monitor pineda before spring training?

The funny thing with his whole weight issue is that it was 1st reported that he was only 10 pounds overweight.  Later it came out it was 20 pounds, and last week 30 pounds.  Somebody wasn't being totally honest with the media about this.  He must have packed the weight on between his physical and when he reported to ST.  As big as he and CC are they probably put weight on just looking at food. lol

10 or 20 lbs on 6'7'' guys is hardly noticeable... Pineda didn't appear to be dangerously overweight when he came to camp, we've seen alot worse, ie Boomer Wells. I think being overweight is more likely to have a negative effect on the back or knees, not a shoulder.  ... this whole notion of trying to blame Cashman is ridiculous.

To anyone going through a difficult time right now  remember someone always has it worse.

It is cashman's fault in that he never made sure his prize aquisition stayed in shape in the off season.  that is what the trainers are for , to keep the players in shape and the trainers report to cashman

So you're trying to say that Pineda gained 20 to 30 pounds in a month (traded for Jan 13 and spring training started Feb 19)? That is truly an idiotic statement.

NC...
