I am a huge fan of D-Rob, and I have zero doubt HE WILL be the next closer of the Yankees. He's got the talent, the mentality and the makeup of a guy who could be a great closer someday.

With that said..... perhaps it's best for now that they go to Soriano and keep D-Rob in the role he's in now where he's blowing away the competition. If you move D-Rob to the 9th then the setup role might be a problem. Do you trust Sori in the 8th especially with runners on? I'm not sure I do.  Better Sori comes in with a clean slate and let D-Rob do his thing for now in the 8th. It's not like Sori was a bad closer when he pitched last time in that role...

NY who's the Yankees future closer? It's Robertson. You might as well find out now. Soriano has setup and closed before but I want the most dominant pitcher at the end of a game. That's Robertson by far. His stats are crazy. He's almost avg. 2 K'S a inning for the last year.

Soriano has done better this year but he scares the hell out of me every time he comes into a game. Is it better that Robertson shut down the 8th and Soriano blows it in the 9th. Nothing worse then losing a game in the last inning. Based on who deserves it , it's Robertson. I think he would rightfully feel slighted also.

Jeff Nelson said....Soriano can only  pitch one inning, he should be the closer.  Robertson is very valuable he has the ability to pitch 2 innings if necessary. As Robertson is the closer of the future...for this year let him pitch 8th and bring him in the middle of the 7th if necessary.  Their is no way Soriano has the ability to pitch part of 7th and the 8th inning.

...and by the way, he thinks Mo is coming back 2013

Always proud to be a Yankee fan.

I agree! I'd put Soriano in the closer spot. You never want to be the guy that is replacing "THE GUY." You want to be the guy replacing the guy that replaced "THE GUY." Let Robertson mentally adjust to being the closer next year. JMO.

I guess my vote would go for Soriano as well.. As good as Robertson is he throws a lot of pitches to be a closer.. I know his future is a closer, but I think he needs a little more time to get on top of his control..  I also agree he can throw more then one inning if needed and Soriano is really a one inning guy.. I also think you will make Soriano happy if he can be the closer, after all he seems to need something to be happy about these days..

Oh my God ... the guy has given up games already as a closer for the Yankees ... knowing that Mo was still around ... I can't imagine how horrible he would be with all the pressure on him in NY ... but I do see what you are saying about trying him first, and then let Robertson get adjusted a bit ... but still, just the idea of Soriano closing gives me the shivers!

I'm just saying that for the LONG TERM interests of the Yankees, it might be easier for Robertson to replace Soriano then Mo. Perhaps Soriano will stop what I believe is pouting if he was put into a pressure situation like he had been in the past.

Tough, interesting decision for Girardi but I think he goes with Soriano. We shall see.

Oh, I totally see what you are saying ... and it makes sense ... but Soriano makes me very very nervous ... I'm not going to have any nails left!

i agree i think Joe will go with Sori as the defacto closer simply bcuz he would sulk if Rob gets the call from joe ..reason is Sori considers himself a closer plus he is getting closer $$ ...then if it doesnt work ..so be it.
