Rivera vows to pitch again

I’ll have more later, but Mariano Rivera just said he will absolutely pitch again. He’s determined to not let his career end like this.

UPDATE, 5:29 p.m.: Rivera didn’t leave much wiggle room for himself.

“I am coming back,” he said. “Put it down. Write it down in big letters. I’m not going down like this. God willing and given the strength, I’m coming back.”

Rivera is not sure he can pitch again this season, but he repeated that “miracles happen.” Ultimately, he’s ready to pitch next season, and he won’t pitch for anyone but the Yankees.

“Oh yeah,” he said. “They will want the old goat.”

Also, the Yankees have optioned D.J. Mitchell back to Triple-A to make room for Dewayne Wise. They’ve also moved Michael Pineda to the 60-day to open a 40-man spot, and obviously they’ve put Rivera on the 15-day disabled list to open a spot for Cody Eppley.

Glad they sent Mitchell back down.  Better for now that he stay in rotation down there I think.

I agree.  I was actually right on that move.

Good, extensive report. ...... I also read where two Doctors a/w this injury claimed that there is NO reason Mo won't be able to come back and pitch next season.

The two most beneficial factors being: he is in great shape (no excessive weight) and he has an incredible work ethic.

Also, the recovery will be VERY hard and he will be required partake in whether he pitches or not.........go Mo!!

I told you all to stop being such sad sacks last night.

I don't get why people don't have the inner fire that says "if quitting isn't a "never" resort, it d*** sure better be the last one."

I guess defiance is so burned into my DNA that I just don't get people who don't think the same way.

LOL ... your optimism is amazing!

What the heck are you talking about? She was giving up right alongside you last night!

I've always appreciated both of your passions for the Yankees, but are you guys living in your own little world here, or what?

If that's what "optimism" looks like (her sad sack posts last night to match yours), I'd hate to see what pessimism looks like.

I'm sorry for being aggressive about this, but the overall defeatism of Yankee fans last night had me breathing fire. I can't stand defeatism. It's the worst.

It hasn't been easy to predict these moves lately, unless you take the same crazy pills Cashman does.
