Phil Hughes was sharp, Robinson Cano was productive and Nick Swisher was in the lineup. A rough trip to Kansas City ended on a high note with this afternoon’s 10-4 Yankees win against the Royals. Hughes pitched into the seventh inning for the first time since August 19 of last year. He struck out seven, walked one and maintained impressive fastball velocity in easily his best start of the season. Behind him, the slumping Yankees offense scored its highest run total since April 21 in Boston. Cano hit a grand slam to double his season RBI total, Alex Rodriguez homered for his first extra-base hit since April 27 and Swisher homered in his return from a strained hamstring.
