Last week you gave us a 2014 lineup that wouldn't even win 60 games.  It had Soler, Mason Williams, and Gardner in the outfield, Jeter as DH, and Dante Bichette at 3rd base.

It'll be interesting to see what they do with Granderson. If he has another great season (which seems likely), he's going to want upwards of $15-20 million a year, and signing him to a long-term deal would be the last thing a team trying to cut payroll would want to do. They might be able to convince a NL team to let go of a top-of-the-line starter in exchange for some offensive power, which most NL teams seem to be lacking. Swisher is off to a solid start, but he's more likely than Granderson to level off with his RBI numbers as the year goes on. The Yankees will unquestionably exercise their option for 2013 with Cano, because he'll want the same deal as Granderson, if not more, if they were to re-negotiate.

I've mentioned this as a possibility before and it does make some sense.  They could resign Swisher and pickup Granderson's 2013 option then deal Granderson for a pitcher.  Swisher won't get the years or money that it would take to lock up Granderson longterm after next year, and they could move Gardner over to center again.  It's a lot easier to find a leftfielder to replace Gardner then it would be to find a rightfielder to replace Swisher.  I would not write this idea off since it would save them money for 2014 and beyond.

Why is it absolutely written in stone that they can't retain Swisher as well as Granderson and Cano?

I wonder if Granderson will be a tough sign. He just strikes me as a guy that might not hold out for the last dollar. Just an impression I have. The guy seems very very grounded with straight priorities.

why is it dumb? these are a couple of our only tradeable assets. we're an old team that isnt championship calibre.

We don't have a suitable replacement for Swisher yet. As for the rest of your post, nice to give up on the season already.

swisher probably is gone (10.250 million) Kuroda ( 10 million)  Jones ( 2 million) Garcia (4 milion) Martin (7.5 Milion)

Felicano (2 million) Ibanez( 1.1 million) Chavez ( 900,000) Rivera  ( 15 million) Burnett (11 million)

approximately 65 million  . If  Soriano opts out, make that 76 million

So to say that the Yanks can't  afford both Cano and Grandersen  is not true

Rivera will be brought back on a year to year basis (like Andy ) , but  Cashman is   going to ask him to take a pay cut to probably under

8- 10 million.

after next  season Jeter goes from 17 million to 7 million. Arod  starts to goes down (1 million for 2014)

Unless the Steinbrenners are suddenly OK with the payroll shooting up to $250 million, there is no way this team can afford to keep all 3 of those guys.

why? First of all Mariano is gone for the year,so Soriano is now necessary

Swisher is right now your biggest  rbi producer. He hits  28-32 hrs  a year and walks around 100 times a year.

That is why. What you are asking is for the Yanks is just throw in the towel already.

Question, does the Yankees have insurance that covers when a player like Mo goes down for a complete year ?? I've heard that they do and that would help out a lot.. As far as Mo coming back next year, I'm betting the Yankees will not give him $15M ??

Lots of money coming off the books in the next year of so.. I'm hoping Granderson will come back a maybe a house discount, don't know just what kind of deal Swisher would ask for, but I'm thinking the Yankees won't offer him as much as he's getting right now.. The player I'm most worried about is Cano, mostly because of who he has for an agent.. I don't know why I have this feeling, but I think Cano will go where the most money is, so he's no lock for being a Yankee the rest of his career..
