In a world of arrogance and egotism {professional athletics} Josh Beckett's latest foray comes close to taking the cake. Josh missed a start for the Red Sox about a week ago. {Something to do with a "lat" muscle.} Fine. Pitchers miss a start here and there. It was revealed on Wednesday {before his VERY unsuccessful start Thursday night} that on the day after Beckett had been skipped in the rotation because of the apparent "lat" problem he was seen out playing a round of golf on a local course. When queried about it Beckett said, "it was a day off. We don't get that many day's off in a baseball season. What I do on my day's off is my business.".............Now. You've got to understand Beckett is on everyone's collective chit list because of the beer in the clubhouse and fried chicken deliveries last season {leading to an utter collapse and Francona taking the blame.} He's walking on egg shells to begin with. What is amazing is his total lack of "connection" to the way things really are for him or perhaps he just doesn't care. Revealing either way...................I don't care who you are or what you do. You have to have some kind of recognition of where you work, what your specific situation is within that company at that specific time, what the general atmosphere is at the company at that time {tense? relaxed? winning? losing? hiring? laying people off?}, how that company is percieved by the public at that given moment in time. It behooves all of us to size up our "situation" as we walk to the car to drive to work everyday.............otherwise you're reckless and stupid.
