craner7 Posts: 12,782	AJ I've been mostly happy with my ASUS except for losing the original hard drive and this irritating problem. I have a ton of room on the hard drive....only using right now 50 GB out of 676 GB available! And I have thousands of pics and lots of video clips of family. I'm not a gamer so nothing more than some child games for grandkids are on it.

prof. quiz Posts: 2,820	So your PC is working again? Intermittents are the hardest problems to nail down. Do yourself a favor craner. Burn those pics to DVD's or upload them to an online backup service. Think of all hard drives (as well as flash drives) as temporary storage. They eventually all fail. I don't care if it's a 1 TB $100 SATA consumer unit or a 1 TB $800 SAS server model. I've had them last years as well as fail while I'm trying to install them. A DVD should remain viable for 100+ years as long as it's not targeted by a meteorite.

prof. quiz Posts: 2,820	AJ, my homebuilt rig boots up in 24 seconds! I use a small 60GB SSD for my system drive. The BIOS alone on my ASUS mobo takes 14 seconds of the 24 to do it's housekeeping.
