How many more chances for Hughes?

Through 10 starts he has 3 quality starts. One was the Royals and the other was the A's. He doesn't look like a major league starter and he's had years and years to develop. Sure, he's still young but my god he's going on 26 years old and his best year is still 2009 when he pitched out of the pen.

His next start will put him over 500 innings, if he can make it past the fourth inning. At what point are the Yankees going to admit they were wrong about this guy? He's giving up 2.1 HR/9 right now despite the improved velocity, that's the worst rate of his career.

Their options are getting slim for starting pitching. Pineda's injury really fouled up the plans. Maybe they could try Phelps. He looks good at times, but he probably won't be any better than Hughes over the course of the season. Garcia is probably gone. He hasn't pitched since May 21 and with Hughes struggling last night they still opted not to use him.

Lots of questions, very few solutions.

They're not wrong, they're just misusing him. He's a quality 7th-8th inning setup guy.

hughes was fairly dominant for a few months up until august in 2009.  he faded in sept and was a no show in the playoffs.

until hughes comits the ultimate screwup ala nunez...as long as cashman is the GM, you will see hughes in a yankee uniform and probably in the starting rotation.....thats how many more chances hughes is going to get

I guess the Yankee braintrust feels that there is less risk and more reward trying to develop Hughes than making a trade and inheriting someone else's problems. Is there a 24-27 YO out there that needs a change of scenery and would be better than Hughes?

Hughes fastball velocity is up but his location leaves alot to be desired. Again can't put hitters away with 2 strikes which tells us what? His approach appears to be to try to blow his fastball past hitters . Not a good enough fastball to get away with that and they sit on it . Boom HR.  I don't see him changing and have no confidence in him being able to beat a good hitting team. Can they still send him down? Probably ends up in the bullpen.

If it was up to me, none.

He either goes to the pen or the minors and learn an out-pitch before he would start another game for me.

Hughes = straight fastball.

I dont think that Cash is going to trade him because if he does he will admit he was wrong because they showcased Hughes as a STUD, so he will remain I am sure in the starting rotation. I guess they have no one in the Minor Leagues close enough to pitch at the Major League Level. Our rotation is not good, Kuroda and Hughes are not dependable, we still don't know how much Andy can give us and Nova is having problems this year. So the only one  we can trust is CC.

Texas seems to be so far the best  Team in the American League.

All good points. I agree w/ you completely about the Cashman/Hughes dependency. Still, if Hughes continues the way he has through the All Star break (and esp if has a devastating outing against Boston once or twice), I think it'll dawn on Cashman and his FO supporters that it's in the best interest of the team and Hughes himself that he be traded, preferably to a NL team. A big "if," perhaps, but not (another if) if loud complaints start ringing down the rafters of Yankee Stadium and from the NY media.
