"I'm 63 and I'm Tired"
by Robert A. Hall

But not tired on lying  like the American-hating fraud that you are

I'm 63
. . Given the economy, there's no retirement in sight, and I'm tired. Very tired.

When Robert A. Hall pretends he doesn't have enough money to retire, he's lying. By my count, he has at least 4 pensions, as a lieutenant in the Marines, as a former Massachusetts State Senator, as a worker in the private sector (Social Security), and, as executive director of non-profit associations since 1982, a 501(c)3 pension. We all wish we had that much retirement income. He owns his $250,000 condo free and clear. As a State Senator, he was able to shelter a portion of his salary from any taxes to invest in retirement instruments. His salary, as president of the American Association of Cosmetic Dentistry, from 2002 to 2007, was likely more than $150,000 per year, although he doesn't come clean about that. He also qualifies for federal health plans, Medicare and VA hospitalization.

I'm tired of being told that I have to "spread the wealth" to people who don't have my work ethic. I'm tired of being told the government will take the money I earned, by force if necessary, and give it to people too lazy to earn it.

Liar.  Cons like Hall LOOOOOOOOOOOVE
wealth redistribution, as long as the redistribution
is to the rich.

But if they bought Mc Mansions at three times the price of our paid-off, $250,000 condo, on one-third of my salary, then let the left-wing Congress-critters who passed Fannie and Freddie and the Community Reinvestment Act that created the bubble help them with their own money.

Liar.  The poor did not cause the housing crisis.
It was the greed of Wall Street and banks.

I could go on and rip this piece of garbage apart.

Hey, nice try Spin Doctor. A piece of garbage? The only thing that's a piece of garbage are your threads refuting everything that is the truth.

The lying dirt bag, no reference to Long Beach State, lied

when he said:

Given the economy, there's no retirement in sight, and I'm tired. Very tired.

The phony is partying like it is 2999 with his

government retirement benefits all locked in.

Not to mentioned the phony ripped-off Billy Crosby in his fabricated rant.

No Facts.

Just spinning like a top.

The essay was incorrectly attributed to Bill Cosby at one point in its circulation, but Robert A Hall did in fact write this.

I am the Robert A. Hall who wrote, “I’m Tired,” which was posted on my blog in February of 2009: tartanmarine.blogspot.com/2009/02/robert...

As it went around the net, some versions were edited and attributed to the actor, Robert D. Hall or to Bill Cosby, as a check of snopes.com will reveal. I’m sure they are as unhappy with this lack of ethics as I am. The person who said I “ripped off” Cosby is incorrect. I will assume, unlike you, that he is merely uninformed, and not “lying,” as my ethics preclude my accusing people of lying without having the facts

As to my supposed “pensions,” the author of this response might review his own ethical standards before accusing people of lying with having the facts in his possession. I served ten years in the Massachusetts Senate. Had I left the money I saved in the retirement system, I would now qualify for a pension of $7,000 a year, 25% of my then-salary. However, when I left the senate, it was after the Jimmy Carter years and double digit inflation, so I withdrew what I had contributed from my salary, and used it as a down payment on a $42,000 home in Tallahassee, where I found work. So I do not and will not receive a government pension for my senate service. And as a government employee, there were no Social Security contributions during that time, so no build up there.

As you can see on my blog, I served four years in the Marine regulars, including Vietnam, and, later another six in the reserves. You do not receive a military retirement unless you serve 20 years, as most people are aware. Also, my terminal rank was SSgt. The statement that I was a Lt. is untrue., though I was offered a commission as a LDO at the time my employment conflicts forced me to give up the reserves.

None of the non-profits I managed has provided me with a 401k, so that statement is also “fact free.” I do have an IRA which my wife and I have contributed to. Last month I began collecting Social Security, $2,200 a month, from which I have to pay taxes. I am, as required by law, on Medicare, as I am 66. I do not know if the VA will provide hospitalization for my service in Vietnam. I thought you had to have a service connected disability, or be an indigent vet.

When I said I couldn’t afford to retire, I was referring to my wife and I. Given that I am six years into pulmonary fibrosis, for which I require oxygen, and the usual time from diagnosis to death is 3-5 years, I certainly have enough money for the rest of my life, nor will I collect from Social Security or Medicare close to what I paid in. PF kills as many—probably more—folks each year than breast cancer, but is little known, and gets few research dollars, because it doesn’t have a defined victim group, thus isn’t a political disease. But my wife would be expected to out live me by 12 years even if I didn’t have PF, so I am very concerned that she will live in poverty.

We were fortunate enough by saving to pay off our $250k condo, now worth about $170k due to the housing bubble collapse. We also bought a 2/2 condo in the Chicago area to live in until we retire. We paid $160k, but they are now selling for under $120k, so we’d be “under water,” except that I am conservative with money and pay extra each month. As to my lying about the housing collapse, that is a matter of opinion. Most economists think the government got the bubble started by forcing backs to give subprime mortgages to people with no ability to pay if the market didn’t go up, and by inflating the money supply. But there is no question that Wall Street piled on, when they saw how much money Jim Johnson and Frank Raines were bringing in at Fannie. I suggest the book “Reckless Endangerment,” which pretty much fairly spreads the blame around to all guilty parties.

As you should know, as a non-profit exec, my salary is public record on our tax returns, and listed at Guidestar.com. It is now about $170k per year, about the median for my profession for organizations of our size. The fellow who attacked me for not mentioning Long Beach State? I have no idea what you are talking about. I went to college on the GI bill and working, MWCC, U-Mass and Fitchburg State nights for a master’s degree in history, with no loans and no help from my parents except a place to live. (Dad was a teacher with three kids.)

Mr Hall the world doesn't evolve around you or what you want. We can't have everything we want. That might be called greed. That's something you should have learned as a child. So may I suggest moving to Somalia? You can have the black President of your liking. You will get to keep all of your wealth. And you will have practically no government at all. If you do find it in the kindness of your heart, can you please take all the redneck rebels that are still fighting the Civil War with you. Thanks. Love Max xo

Did you see when he wrote the story, Feb, 2009. Obama was hardly in office but our Con friends try to blame it on Obama. Have they no shame?

One of many flaws I have noticed with such posts. I can't speak for those posters but that's what happens when people want to  really believe in something they read without doing their own research. You'll see the same flaw/mistake in the subject title "The Difference".
