Well, let's stop having voting places at all, then.  Just put the ballots out on the street corner and a ballot box right next to them and go on the "honor system," then.  Then the voters can count 'em.  Think of it, a ballot box on every street corner.  Pretty soon we'll have a chicken in every pot, too.

My post did not warrant this response ... I clearly stated that someone has to be proven to be a legal citizen, the right age and not a felon before voting ... I'm not against voter ID's ... but I think there should be voter registration drives that help people get the appropriate identification that they need to vote.

That's the job of political parties and, ultimately, the voters themselves.  If one is too stupid to know which side of the road on which to drive, one doesn't get to drive for very long or, at least, not until one figures it out after two or three tickets.

If one is too stupid to figure out how to get to the ballot box, one figures it out or quits trying.

Stupid people shouldn't be voting anyway; that's how goofs and ****s like Obumbler get elected.

The Move act was signed into law in 2009, and in 2010 the DOJ did file Lawsuits against States that did not comply and did not qualify for a waiver.  This will be the First Presidential election since the Move Act was enacted and will probably be interesting because CO Sos Gessler (r) does not want to comply.  I don't think this is simply a matter though, of Dems or Reps trying to influence the vote, and may have more to do with Primary dates, obtaining proper addresses and registrations, etc.

I didnt know this until looking for examples of Democrats suppressing the military vote that this POS Eric Holder and crew were helping states find ways around the Move Act, the law demanding ballots be sent to our military in a timely manner. Unfreeking real! Well heres good news! Holder is making sure Guam follows the law!

A group of Republican lawyers and law students called Tuesday for the Obama administration to do more to ensure that members of the military are able to cast ballots in the Nov. 2 elections.

The RNLA is a group of Republican lawyers who advise candidates on election laws and provide assistance on recounts and charges of voter fraud. The group’s announcement on the military vote is here.

Last week, the Justice Department announced that it had “filed a lawsuit against Guam and its election officials, seeking emergency relief to help ensure that military service members and other U.S. citizens living overseas have the opportunity to participate fully in the Nov. 2, 2010, federal general election.”

But Norcross said in his statement: “Filing a suit in Guam is not a serious attempt to ensure that every state following the law and ensuring military votes. … The Justice Department should be filing similar suits in New York and any other state that is failing to meet the MOVE Act.”

The whole State/Federal ID requirement for voting may not be meant to discourage voters, but it is a superfluous requirement at a polling station.  How would you suggest they qualify Mail-in and Absentee Ballots, if they require Positive ID at a polling station?

We would need a lot more information:  How many voters do not have the appropiate form of Identification?  What are the demographics?  What would stop the same person that would fraudulently vote in a polling station from using a mail in ballot instead, or a fake ID?

I don't think it would discourage fraud at all, but it will probably slow the actual voting process (which could discourage voters), I could see it hindering many people for a variety of reasons, whether they just do not have the appropiate ID, can not get the appropiate ID (NJ 6 point system comes to mind), or just have other concerns or fears (imagined or real) concerning the issue.
