Bloomberg: Extra Large Drinks Aren’t What “The Founding Fathers Fought For”

What an unbelievably stupid thing to say. The Founding Fathers fought for our right to decide for ourselves, aka freedom. They didn’t need to specifically mention Big Gulps.

Life is tough, but it's tougher when you're stupid.

Bloomberg To Proclaim Friday. . . National Donut Day

So apparently it’s acceptable to eat fat-laden donuts but whatever you do, don’t wash it down with a big soda.

good to know he's working on the important issues. I think he has early onset dementia. No one in their right mind would be touting this if they were of sound mind.

Like folks sad not that long ago, when they are done with the smokers they will come for you. Icecream trucks are next.

I can understand the smoking ban in public places because 2nd hand smoke is unhealthy and annoying to others. But the last time I checked someone else didn't gain calories from a soda I drank. The idea is so stupid. You can't buy any soda over 16 oz. Yet you can buy as many 8oz sodas that you want. It also doesn't apply to milkshakes.

the problem with Bloomy is, he is  the case in point of the slippery slope, his mentality is why no one will reform other things, it's why they hold the line. The smoking ban at work, bars, restaurants, etc  everyone for the most part was fine with but it wasnt enough, so he went to beaches, playgrounds, used kids as an excuse, then went after the open air parks, used quality of life as an excuse, etc. Now he's going after people in their own apartments.

Common sense would say smoke is not a good thing, but even the results of second hand smoke studies are somewhat debatable, and they really become absurd once the argument for second hand smoke is used to ban smoking outside, where the effects are completely negligible.

He wants to focus his energies on soda size regulation, but when someone mentions regulation of the financial markets, he flips a lid.

I agree. He also went overboard with bike lanes. Hey, I'm all for bike lanes but this isn't Holland. There's a place for those, but it's not for the main streets in Manhattan. Have you been to Manhattan lately? Between bike lanes and closing off streets to make them walkways, there's no room     for cars. Most likely it's all going to be a waste of money because the next Mayor will probably do away with most of the bike lanes and walkways. At least I like to think so.

hehe, true. Bike lanes are good, but the way he went about it and the design of them were poorly thought out. Before the pic scandel, Weiner said when he became mayor it would be one of the first things to go.

I dunno, the guy seems to have zero consideration of NYC culture and the common man. It's like on big game of sim city to him.   He should just stick to fixing pot holes, being here for snow storms, keeping crime down, affordable transportation and cutting ribbons, enough of windmills on the brooklyn bridge, eco friendly soccer mom taxi vans, etc.

This is what happens when people that are not from NY or NYC run the City.
