Wonderful post Carp. I dont get into any of these records like I used to. The steroids ruined it for me, so not meaning to be a neggy nellie about this , imo Lou is still on top, just as Ruth's 714 and Aaron's 755, Maris' 61 are still the big numbers.

That homerun fiasco with Bonds, McGwire, and Sosa seemed more like a sideshow than baseball. I wouldn't be surprised to find out it was all staged just to generate fan interest.

The one record that I hated to see broken was Gehrig's consecutive game streak. That was so much a part of baseball lore and history.

Those guys made a mockery of the game 61. Screw them all. Now no one takes these once sacred records seriously anymore. What a fiasco!!!!

It's a sad situation and Selig doesn't seem to want to work on fixing it!

I don't have a link, Craner, you may have to cut and paste. I got it in an e mail and that's what I did.

Did you notice that just 2years after Bonds hit 73 the league leader was Thome with 47 and then Cabrera won the AL title with just 37 in 2008.

Maybe the steriod era is making a comeback, Jose Conseco is playing for the Worcester Tornados.
