Injury updates

From the Yankees:

OF Brett Gardner saw Dr. Timothy Kremchek today, who agreed with the Yankees’ diagnosis of an elbow muscle strain, bone bruise and joint inflammation, which have not fully healed.

Dr. Kremcheck administered a PRP (platelet-rich plasma) and cortisone shot today, and agreed with Dr. Andrews’ recommendation from Monday of giving the elbow 3-4 weeks of rest with an elbow brace to ensure compliance with the rest.

In addition, the Yankees today reinstated RHP David Robertson from the 15-day disabled list and optioned RHP David Phelps to Single-A Tampa. Once his arm strength builds towards the 5.0-inning mark, Phelps is scheduled to join Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

If the Yankees didn't have the best record in the American League, I wouldn't be feelin' so good myself!

It's great to see Robertson back and to see Phelps go back to get regular work.  I think he'll be an important part of our pitching staff in August and September and having him stretched out will be a plus.  You've got to figure that they'll be looking to give Andy some extra rest at some point and maybe Kuroda as well.  Although Kuroda's motion looks to be smooth, he seems to use a lot of arm, something that may tire as the season goes on.

I'm glad that Gardner's second opinion matches the first, although at this point, I don't count on having him for the season.  Hopefully Raul and Andruw can keep the peace in left until we undoubtedly pick up or promote someone as the deadline approaches.
