Cashman delivered Mark Texeira to Yankees fans as a Christmas gift in 2008. Before the signing, the projected first baseman for the team was the newly acquired (also by Cashman) Nick Swisher. Fast forward to today and the question is " Which player would you rather have locked up for the next four years ?"  The four years is noted because that is what is left on the Tex deal, and it is worth 22.5 M per year for a total of 90 M.

Tex because of his valuable defense and consistent 30/100. I would sign Swish, but no more than 3 years $25 mil.

No, I think the most I would go would be 4 years $ 75 mil.

I'd rather have Tex just for his defense. He saves alot of bad throws and makes great plays. His offense isn't too shabby considering he does go 30/100. He has been taking a fair share of walks this year aswell.

When you look at their numbers they really are not all that different. I have to believe Swisher would drive in a few more runs if he hit higher up in the order. Texeira is a better first baseman, but Swisher can play at first or in the outfield. Both hustle, but Swisher is a step faster...less slow. I think it is a closer comparison than most people might think...and wonder if either is worth anywhere near $90 million for 4 years.

This is an interesting thread, I would take Texeira because he hits more HR's than Swisher.
