The 2nd baseman who hit a bomb in the 8th to get them closer? Is he the right target tonight?

Actually, the Yankees' starters have an ERA of 7.79 the last 3 games, and even if you hit .300 with RISP, you're likely to lose nearly every game with that sort of ERA.

Really? They lost one game by a run, and another by two runs. How can you tell me one or two timely hits don't make a difference? If Granderson hits a HR, the Yankees win tonight.

Right, but they're only back close in the last two games because of all those unclutch HRs with no RISP.

Now, the statement I made was: if your starters have an ERA of 7.79, you're likely to lose nearly every game, even if you hit .300 with RISP.

Here's something that sorta backs that up. The 1930 Phillies had, arguably, the worst pitching staff in major league history. The staff ERA was 6.71, the starters' ERA was 6.15. They batted .315 as a team, so, even though they didn't keep stats on BAVG with RISP back then, it's very likely they batted at least .300 with RISP.

The team had 5 starters with an ERA of 7.00 or higher. Even though the Phils scored over 6 runs a game, and they very likely had a BAVG with RISP over .300, the record of those 5 starters was 9-43, .173 WPCT.

So when I say that if the ERA of your starters is 7.79, you're likely to lose nearly every game, what I mean by that is: if your starters have an ERA of 7.79, you're likely to lose nearly every game.

During those 10 wins Yankees pitching was terrific as with stellar defense.  Unfortunately Pettitte giving up 5 runs in the first inning prior to settling down with good stuff was a killer.  Lets hope Nova and Sabathia pitch well giving Yankees an ample opportunity to win this series.

Ask Pettitte himself..... Pettitte on 5-run 1st: "That was the game...I blew it from the get-go." Called pitch on Davis's 3-run HR "horrible" cutter

Always proud to be a Yankee fan.
