Two roster moves for Thursday

The Yankees played with 24 today.  They'll have to add 2 players for tomorrow.  I would imagine that Warren won't be moved until Friday as it will involve a 40 man roster move as well.

Let's look at the candidates:

- David Phelps:  in Tampa lengthening out to be a starter.  He last pitched on Monday but threw only 3.1 innings.  At the MLB level, you'd guess he might have enough pitches to get you 4+ in a start or they can bring him up as a long man, as early as tomorrow.

- DJ Mitchell:  Started last night and pitched a strong 7 innings.  He's on the 40 man and I think he'd be right in line to replace Pettitte.  I don't see him being brought up for relief help tomorrow.

- Ramon Ortiz:  Significant MLB experience and was scheduled to pitch at AAA tonight.  Not on 40 man roster, but he is a consideration for a long man role.

- Ryota Igarashi:  Threw 1 inning at AAA last night in relief.  He's pitched well at AAA, is on the 40 man, and has some MLB experience.

- Danny Farquhar:  Last pitched on June 22 and was picked up by the Yanks yesterday, taking up a 40 man roster spot.  He's been trashed at AAA this season but has had some success at AA.  He could be a one day callup tomorrow for a blowout and you could dump him to make room for Warren on the 40 man.

My prediction:  Igarashi and Phelps called up tomorrow.  Warren called up on Friday and Igarashi back down.  The corresponding 40-man move to get Warren back up...that one is going to be perplexing.  I would imagine they might dump Farquhar.  Garcia will make Pettitte's next scheduled start and Phelps will remain the long man.

Yankees will call up Warren and Igarashi tomorrow to replace CC/Pettitte

Cashman says he prefers not to go outside organization. Will try options like Warren, Garcia, maybe Phelps first.

I know they probably have a good reason, but calling up Igarashi makes me wanna throw up a little bit.

I'd really like to see them give DJ a chance, even though he hasn't been lights out in AAA. Igarashi at the big level = can't throw a strike.

DJ pitched 7 innings last night.  It would make no sense to call him up tomorrow.
