I want Cole Hamels!! Plz go get him Cashman!!!

Nah, if we really want him, we could wait till the off season.. Amaro is salivating over our farm system.

No..........the Yankees shouldn't do that.

If the Yankees are truly interested in Cole Hamels, RENTING HIM NOW is perhaps the BEST OPTION , rather than waiting for the offseason to pursue and sign him. Simply put, the Yankees cannot afford another bad long term contract. I would rather the Yankees acquire Hamels now and if it doesn't work don't sign him at season's end. If it DOES work out, then you'll at least know what you'll get from Cole Hamels for the next 5-6 yrs at (perhaps) 18-20 mil per.

Hamels, unlike Roy Halliday and Cliff Lee, is young at 28 years old 2 time World Series pitcher. Not only that, but he's a 6'3" lefthander and IMO a worthwhile investment and a good risk to pursue NOW.

Hamels is a quality pitcher but I'm in the camp that the cost will be too high both to trade for him and pay him as a FA.

It will cost higher if the Yankees sign him to a (untradeable) multi-year contract and he ends up wilting under the Yankee Stadium spotlight.

Lee is more moveable than Hamels with that contract.

Bats, so let me see if i understand this...

The Yankees should try out Hamels for a few months... half the games will be spent on the road... but that's besides the point... So we trade for Hamels and try him out, sort of like probation, to see if he's worth the money he'll be demanding in the off season... Mind you this probation would be costing us some serious talent in the minors... but he's a 28 yr old Lefty....

which brings me to..

Now he passes probation, and he's a Free Agent... We are 3 or 4 future Major Leaguers down from the farm system, and now we have to pay this man 18-20 Million... A 28 yr old lefty is going to demand less than what his teammates (Doc and Lee on the Phillies) and (CC on the Yankees) made at an older age? You really think the market for Hamels will dip under 20 Million when Lee warranted 24+? In what mind?

Im confused with your logic... Elaborate, please.

He's gonna want big money after this season, or to sign an extension. He's not worth big money imho. He makes an ace on some clubs, and great number 2 on most.

There will come a point, where these guys will see salary start to decline. High payroll teams getting tapped out and trying to avoid going over the limit, small market teams with not enough to pay big contracts, there will be few teams that can continue to give out 180 million dollar deals to everyone with a bit of talent.

I don't think the Yankees can expect to have enough left over to pay another huge contract. They have to worry about resigning some of their own guys in the near future.

If the deal is reasonable,go for it. But you don't gut your farm system for a 3-4 month rental.

You don't even get the draft pick if he signs elsewhere next year anymore..

A team needs a loaded farm and salary room. After looking at every team im going to go with the dark horse M's getting Hamels to pair with Felix.

Why would the Mariners spend that kind of money when they have such a lousy team in so many other areas?

Id trade for Hamels on the condition that we get a window for a contract extension or else theres no deal.

Problem is though, is Hamels worth Banuelos cause the Phillies would all but demand Banuelos in a trade.
