If the deal is reasonable,go for it. But you don't gut your farm system for a 3-4 month rental.

What farm system? I don't think the Phillies want what we have to offer.

I would think the Phillies would want a couple of players already at the ML level and maybe a prospect or 2. I can't believe they are throwing in the towel. They still have a very good team and are not that far out. They might need to fill a couple of holes and that would be why they want to trade Hamels. It only makes sense though if they are sure they can't sign him.

The Phillies are dead last in the NL ast 10 games back.   Even though they ar suppoosed to be getting Ryan Howard back shorlty, that is a lot of treams to climb over.  But I agree, I think that they are trading him only if they think that they can't re-sign him and/or they think they are heading for a couple of years of rebuilding.

And, frankly, I'm not sure what the Yankee farm system has that is likely to be of any significant help this year or next.  Certainly no position players.  Warren crashed spectactularly in his debut, the "killer Bs"  seem to be regressing or injured or both.

I know Bats has suggested renting him for 2 months to see if he can handle NY.  But he has pitched well in Phillie (not NYC, maybe, but certainly not some Foreign Legion outpost) and has multiple WS and playoff appearances under his belt.

Hamels would be one of the few players to spend big money on. If the Yanks were willing to go after Lee when Seattle was trading him they should certainly be willing to go after Hamels. Hamels isn't quite as dominant as Lee was but he is 3 years younger than Lee was in Seattle.

If the Yankees are really serious about getting their payroll down (and it sounds as if they are), then I highly doubt they go after Hamels.  I can't see them fitting him into their payroll, although I really love the guy.  As for renting him.  No way you give up top prospects for a 2 month rental, unless you get a window to sign him longterm.  You're going to lose your top prospects for a 2 month rental?   Don't be surprised if they trade Hamels and try to get him back  as a free agent in the offseason.  That's the best of both worlds for the Phillies, and Ruben Amaro is one of the smartest GM's in the game.  If Hamels doesn't resign with Philly, look for him to sign with the Dodgers.

no reason to trade for hamels and deplete already suspect system. wait till he becomes free agent. even then im not sure yanks have werewithall to sign another $20mil/yr player.  kuroda $10mil per and swisher $11 mil per will be gone in 2012. i would definitely consider trading granderson and using the money for hamels.

He's not that smart. He put a lot on the line signing Lee hoping to win a WS last year and now he has a huge contract in his declining years while the Phillies get old.

Cashman was ready to get Lee on a 2 month rental, and willing to give up their top prospect. If the Yanks could get Hamels to sign a muti-year deal I would certainly do it and worry about paying for it later. Even if it meant giving up Banuelos

I wouldn't do it either.  This idea that it's going to influence his decision is way off.  He will take the money if he reaches FA.  Don't dump the farm like this... because that's obviously what it would take.

A team needs a loaded farm and salary room. After looking at every team im going to go with the dark horse M's getting Hamels to pair with Felix.

Why would the Mariners spend that kind of money when they have such a lousy team in so many other areas?

They are under 40 million next year as of now and they regulary spend close to 100 milion.
