but I just love that hustle double and the hustle stolen base. He's not the player he was but I sure respect his approach to the game. That hasn't even slipped or changed

Totally Agree!

Alex is always under pressure to defy age and match the stats of 2007 when Hank offerred the huge deal.

He does hustle, works out and has matured as a team player and abandoned his primadonna persona.

He came through today.

I wish he handled himself this way when he was Alex Rodriguez. He could have owned this town and been as beloved as Jeter, Paulie and Mo.

I've always been an Arod fan. I always thought he took an unfair amount of criticism here and the end result (in my mind anyway) made him press at times and his numbers might have suffered in big moments. When the Yankees won in in 2009 and Arod helped carry the load I was thrilled he finally got the monkey off his back.

That said, in a few weeks if he doesn't start hitting the ball with authority JG might want to rethink the batting order. My worry is five consecutive season we've seen a decline in his OPS.

Let's all hope Arod goes on a tear.

Hey Stripes. I understand the wish to shake up the lineup but i don't have a clue how especially until a healthy Gardner comes back. Arod, Swisher, Teixeira, Ibanez, Granderson are all hitting about the same. I just don't know how to switch it around.

I think as A-Rods talent starts to diminish if he starts to use his smarts it will make up for a little of his aging talent ??  Some of the base running he did today was just from having his head in the game more then he did when he let his talent do his thinking for him...

I also think A-Rod is going to be player that will need more time off and it seems to help when he gets it off.. We still have, what 4-5 years of his ridiculous contract to live with, so I'm sure he will see more time off as time goes forward ??

I agree with you newinn ... the way he plays the game when he gets on base is great ... the problem lately has been the strikeouts and the not getting on base at all.

Dude, he stole third base twice in the same inning with the same batter up.  Only thing better was Damon's two base steal on the same play in the World Series.

He always did play the game the right way Glen and I always respected him for it

Not only is he (imo) the best baserunner on the team (I give him a slight edge over DJ cuz I feel ARod is more aggressive situationally)  but he's getting squeezed by the umps as well, making his job even harder. Last week he was called out looking at a ball 6 inches inside, yet Jeter was awarded a BB on a pitch much closer to the plate. I feel bad for him and root for him; I wish he'd shed that Warning Track Power, though...
