17 Years After Oklahoma City Bombing, Right-Wing Extremism Is Significant Domestic Terror Threat

Fifty-six percent of domestic terrorist attacks and plots in the U.S. since 1995 have been perpetrated by right-wing extremists, as compared to 30 percent by ecoterrorists and 12 percent by Islamic extremists. Right-wing extremism has been responsible for the greatest number of terrorist incidents in the U.S. in 13 of the 17 years since the Oklahoma City bombing

It is pretty much a self fulfilling prophecy.  If a person wants to commit a terroristic crime, they have limited options available to them on their own so they will obviously migrate to groups/organizations that they feel (justifiably or not) that will help them achieve that end.  Do extremists and fanatics need an organization to define them?  Think of it like this, I know people that 'ice' race motorcycles.  If someone was to do a study on the number of ice related motorcycle accidents/injuries you would probably find a disproportionate number of the people were associated with an ice racing club or group.  That association is basically irrelevant, since chances are the same people would participate in that activity with or without the club or group.  If McVeigh never bought a copy of the Turner Diaries, would he have been considered a right wing extremist?

The 9/11 attacks were a perfect example of a coordinated conspiracy to attack a target.  It was easy to define and it had purpose (to the conspirators).  In that case we could point and say yes it was Al Quaida, it was Osama Bin Laden, it was cut and dry.  When we don't have a clear outline and a defined agenda, the resulting conclusions are at best speculative.  Did McVeigh bomb the Murrah building because he was a right wing extremist, or because he was just a sick individual?

It is easier to say he was a right wing extremist.  Just like it is easier to say Hasan is an islamic terrorist.

Why are you making a tragedy into a political statement? Big F****ing deal if he's right wing or left wing, go tell that to the families of the 12 people that died and 70 that were injured that he was right wing. The guy is a loon and political affiliations should not enter into the equation.

I bet if he was a Liberal, the Conservatives would be coming out of the woodwork to point that out. You can bet that right now Rush and Beck are trying to find some angle to work in some anti liberal diatribe.

Maybe so, but my opinion is keep politics out of this tragedy, con, liberal, R or D, period.

I agree luv! This is a time for reflection, prayers and grieving. A time will come when politics will enter to help determine the best way to minimize or stop this kind of senseless murder but this is not the time. Wat too soon

I'm curious about that data and how do they choose to characterize perpetrators?  Was that collectivist anti-currency Zeitgeist freak Jared Loughner considered a right wing extremist?

ll, I had to look up Zeitgeist! Man, where do you find these words!

I saw a Republic SeaBee up close and personal the other day. What a funky looking amphibious aircraft. If he wasn't pressed for time I might have gotten a ride.

Here's Matt Drudge tweeting a thinly sourced Joel Pollak report at Breitbart.com:

The James Holmes tracked down by Breitbart.com is 25 years old and registered at an address in La Plata County—roughly a six-hour drive from the alleged shooter's apartment, according to Google Maps.
