It may not have been a wise move by Tex, but I think he has shown himself to be an unselfish player. He busts it on every play. Bad at bat Yes, but calling it selfish is a bit unfair. IMhO.

He's not a selfish player.  But it is selfish to swing at a 3-1 pitch when you're leading off the 9th inning down by three runs.

I think the right word would be "stupid". Wink

Way to go Granderson. Get a freaking hit once in a blue moon would ya?? And Joba, thanks again for BEING YOU

He's very unclutch.  I'll give you that.  This isn't the first time he's come up in a spot like that and failed to come through.  I remember a weak grounder to first in a similar spot in another game (Cincinnati).

I was hoping Ichiro could score on that play.  He's supposed to be amazingly fast.  He's the tying run.  Two outs.  Double into the corner.  I thought he was going to score.

Who had the relay on the Martin hit? Did they show where Ichiro was when the ball was fielded?

agreed. I was fully expecting Ichiro to have a chance to score on that hit by Martin. I was extremely surprised to look at the replay and notice that he was just reaching 3rd base when the ball was relayed in. It was obviously the right decision to hold him, but is it possible that he slipped up around 2nd? On the other hand, Martin did hit the ball hard, it didn't exactly go to the corner, and the LF played the ball perfectly.

Ichiro would've been out by a mile but I thought he was slow getting to third in the first place. The ball was a rocket but a guy that fast has to score on a double with 2 outs.

Detroit did it twice tonight.

Yes. He would have been out by a mile had he been sent.  Notice how I didn't criticize Thomson's decision to hold him.  I said I thought he was going to score when I saw the ball headed for the left field corner.  I guess everyone agrees with that point.  I was surprised Ichiro didn't get to third base any faster.  With two outs, you'd think he'd be flying.

I thought I'd see him running up Ibanez's back.

I'd have love to see Granderson put down a bunt with Ichiro at third.
