Teams have had fire sales in all the various sports since the dawn of the bat and ball. This isn't any different. Silly to blame Selig for any of this. If anything, blame the idiot fans who continue to hand over their money to historically greedy and corrupt owners like Loria.

Looking back the MLB Commissioner can use " his not in the best interests in baseball" power, former MLB Bowie Kuhn used it to block Oakland A's Owner Charley O'Finley's trade of pending MLB free agents Rollie Fingers, Vida Blue and Joe Rudi in 1976.

seems to me that's the only time mlb has a problem

I'm with  IGotYouBabe it's silly to get on bud

although he did say it's under review

There’s a collective bargaining agreement. As far as I understand, everyone’s following the rules,” Levine said. “Teams are allowed to do what they want to do.”

According to web info on the trade, there was alot of cash involved in 1976 terms 3.5 million dollars

The Red Sox paid 2 million for Rollie Fingers and  JoeRudi, plus sending players Andy Merchant and Steve Dillar to the A's

The Yankees paid 1.5 million for Vida Blue, because A's were able to get him to sign a 3 year extension on his player contracr before the trade was made. Finley and Yankees GM Gabe Paul made that deal

Obama is not president of baseball. Yet.

If a team wants to unload, go for it.

How is bud selig letting this deal go through. I know is going to help toronto but this is the third time that the marlins are doing a fire sale. They made all their big signings then they trade them away.  Boy if i were a marlin fan you should be red hot because jeffrey loria fleeced miami again. Now im hearing their superstar is unhappy.
