LOL.....a career .273 hitter for 2 years at 2 mil/per..... You would have to be a **** to "just say NO."
Seriously....one would really have to be ****ic to turn this deal down, if the situation presented itself.
LOL...some of you people were crying and pouting like babies when the Yankees signed Raul Ibanez. I could easily do a Message Board search, but I'm feeling lazy today.
I know a lot of Yankees fans are wanting Mark Trumbo, but if Vernon Wells will only cost 2 mil/year for 2 years, I see no reason why the Yankees can try to get both. It's called "depth" gentleman (and ladies).
Big posted an article from AP that tells us why Wells is not the best fit as the only right handed hitting OF for 2013 at any price. He simply has not hit left handed pitching for a few years now. It looks like we will be seeing lots of that this year...Cashman should keep looking.
The guy was never that great to begin with. He's had a few very good years but nothing eye popping. He did hit 25 bombs in 2011 and in only 77 games this year he hit 11 so he still has some pop. I wouldn't mind a deal for Wells as long as the Angels are pay nearly all of the contract and we give up nothing. Wells would be a huge improvement over Jones and pretty much most ( I said most so don't get on me about Ibanez) of the backup ofers we had over the years.
I know his average sucked but hitting in a friendly hitter ballpark you can add some point to that and all in all it wouldn't be a terrible acquisition.
The Angels will want some players in return if they eat nearly all of Wells' salary. Why would they want to pay his salary just so he could play for NY?
I don't know, same reason we got rid of AJ Burnett?
The amount of money was much less and the Yanks got two prospects in return.
If you want the Angels to pay nearly $40M they are going to want some players in return. Even if they paid $30m of his salary they would want a couple of decent prospects.
