I love Robbie Cano so I love this news. I hope they can iron out a deal some time during the season. Rules are ment to be broken and to hell with that no contract talks in season...Robbie Cano needs to be taken care of and he should be a Yankee for his entire career.

I wish they would lift this stupid don't talk until the contract is up rule. I never doubted the Yanks would get a feel for what Cano would want but I just don't see Cano signing before Free Agency begins next offseason.

The reason the Yanks had this "no negotiations until the contract is up" is beacuse they were always big players in the F.A. market and were willing to replace almost anyone. Now that they don't want to spend on FA's anymore they might be more willing to extend their own player's contracts.

IMHO, this is the only course of action with Cano, the best second basemen in the league and now an perennial MVP contender. The perfect storm is brewing for losing him next year:  Arod’s contact is stinging right nowi,  they have a budget. other teams are throwing tons of money at free agents, and finally Scott Boras. They have to determine now if they can agree to a contract where cost and length is acceptable - if not they have to trade him prior to the deadline because they will get a hell of a lot more that a compensation pick. If they trade him, hello David Adams.
