I'm not 100% sure on this but if A-Rod gets suspended he gets no pay during however long he is suspended..

I dispise ARod as much as the next fellow, but I will believe any of this when I see it. I think it's all conjecture to sell newspapers.

When a player is suspended by the team for discipline he still gets paid.

When a player is suspended by the league for something like substance abuse, he is not paid anything while suspended.

How this affects the luxury tax I do not know.  Since there is no money being paid out I assume that his salary would not count against the luxury tax.  If he did play part of the season his ~$27M hit would then prorated based on playing time.  This is all speculation on my part as there is absolutely no information anywhere on this situation as it has not occured yet in baseball yet to my knowledge.

If the courts were brought in, as you seem to want, Alex and others would face jail time for purchasing, transporting and using illegal substances.

Not sure why you want to lay this on the owners, Alex has, at the very least, admitted to 3 seasons of use (as opposed to his real use his entire career).

The owners are not at fault here, it is the individual players and the players union. The way to end this problem is giving the owners the ability to void the contract if a player is found using illegal drugs of any sort.

Keep in mind, the last thing baseball wants is a Fed investigation, they do not want to lose their government protected monoply.

Alex is a cheat, has been a cheat his entire career, it is time for Alex to exit this team.

I would like to hear the evidence against A-Rod. These sleazy owners will use any underhanded tactic to bring anyone down,as long as it fits their agenda. I'm not defending A-Rod,but any punishment should be able to be upheld by any court in the country. Baseball looked the other way for years, now they leave their cash cows high and dry. Put yourself in any player's shoes, and ask yourself how you would want this handled if it were you.

Selig must be eating up the idea of the 150 game suspension.  It essentially ends A-Rod's career and the Yankees are still on the hook for $100M+ that no insurance policy is paying.  I'm not sure if A-Rod's pay during the suspension will count against the luxury tax, but the last time I checked, they still have to pay his salary... it just doesn't go to Alex.  Salary accrued during suspensions used to go to the fund for needy former players but I think now it's split between that fund and MLB charities.  Imagine, a $15M check to MLB charities...they could build a few really nice ballparks for kids with that dough.

The Yankees should be rooting for a lifetime ban.  That would void the contract and the Yankees wouldn't be on the hook for anything.  I don't think Selig will do this though as his hometown boy Braun is in similar trouble.

In all this mess, Boston fans have got to be chuckling.  All because of a shady deal with MLB did A-Rod not go to the Sox.  Now, the Yankees are paying for Alex AND the broken down Boston guy the Yankees signed to replace him.

Nothing shady about it.  ARod was willing to take a small reduction in the overall value of the contract in order to facilitate the trade.  Players union would not go along.

Short of a lifetime ban, a 150 game suspension that doesn't kick in until the beginning of teh 2014 season is probably the best case scenario for the Yanks.  it would knock some $25 mil off the books for 2014 and be an enormous help in trying to put a competitive team on the field for 2014 AND stay under the luxury tax limitt.
