...probably NOT the Yankees, because some NL team seems sure to claim him

Thinking about it...

...and NL team that's a contender, and has room to take on Hamels' huge contract, and has a need for a starting pitcher, and has multiple top prospects to deal...

...My guess would be the Dodgers, although their payroll is already sky-high, and they're trying to unload a big salary from their outfield.

If Hamels got through the NL, a team which could claim his, and has the multiple top prospects to trade, and the payoll room to spare at the moment is...

...the Red Sox.

I posted this elsewhere...but given the price of pitching today, how bad is the Hamels' deal ? Let's estimate it at $96 M for four years. What do you think Scherzer, Lester and even Shields are getting this offseason ?

Hamels would be a good addition to any team.. if it was the Yankees, it surely would have leaked by now lol..

He's still a damn good pitcher and only signed for 4 more years.. He's worth the risk to a team.

If it's an AL team the rs claiming him makes the most sense. The LAD wanted to trade for him but the Phils wanted the LAD 3 top prospects. Boston has the prospects but trading 3 of them is too steep.

Why would the red Sox claim him?

I think that would make all the sense in the world, but I really doubt he made it out of the NL.  A pitcher like that with 4 years left on a reasonable contract would appeal to a lot of teams.  He'd be Lester on a four year reasonable deal, which seems a lot like what Boston wanted, no?

Any team close to contending with a need for a top of the rotation arm would make sense I believe.  Cubs?  They'd get the second or third shot at claiming him, I think.  Lots of young positional talent there, but no veteran high-end pitching.  Plenty of prospects to offer and probably a boat-load of available money too.
