So Apparanly Shields original demand. For $100+ Million has dropped down. Reports are saying $50 million ( Ervin Santana type contract)

So my question.... Do we throw a 4 Year/ $50 Million offer for him?

I say yes.

As I posted in another thread this would be a no brainer. He brings instant depth and quality to the rotation and IMO makes us a legitimate threat to win the division. However given what has transpired this offseason and lack of a plan IMO regarding the starting rotation, Cashman will say we have enough depth since we signed Capuano and Baker. It makes me sick seeing us spend $5 million on guys like Drew and Capuano and not spend it more wisely on a guy like Shields at this price.

My bad.... I took a quick look to see if anyone had posted on this. Must have missed it :p

You know it's crazy to think about... Paying Capuano and Drew $10 million combined. Clearly they just have no faith in the farm.

In fairness no one expected the asking price for Shields to drop this low. I figured he would find $85 million (Basically an AJ Burnett deal). This may be a huge curveball to ownership... Spending unexpected money that they don't want to spend, but getting a steal.

If that's his price they would be stupid not to sign an AL East proven winner. Capuano and Drew make no sense. They could have spent that money on Shields and let Ref play 2B for league minimum.

True, but I don't think anyone ever thought Shields would sign for that. Quite possibly the Yanks never even inquired about him.

My question is that if the price is this low.... Why is he not in Boston yet?

Maybe these reports are false?

Yeah, I was thinking these rumors might be false also.

You never know these days but Boston did sign some big contracts already after their Dodger bailout.
