Look, I'm not saying the Jays aren't better. They are, and by quite a bit.

They have a much better lineup for hitting, a much better lineup for defense, a much faster team as a whole, and their starting pitching is better right now.

They're +200 runs; that's exceptional in modern baseball. They're on pace for +230 runs. If they hadn't had trouble with their bullpen early in the year, they'd be about 10-12 games ahead of the Yankees right now. The last team to have a diffential better than +200 was the Mariners team that won 116 games before the Yankees beat them in the ALCS.

Right now, this matchup looks like the early 70's when some fairly decent Yankee teams would go up against much stronger Orioles teams late in the season, and the Orioles would just swat them aside, or the early 90's when the powerful Jays team would swat aside the Dent/Stump/Buck Showalter Yanks.

Toronto also swept a 3 game series from the Yanks in NY last month but then the Yanks came within a dropped fly ball of doing the same to the Jays in Toronto.

Hopefully next week's series will go a little better for them.

What happened to my Yankee fans?  Back in the day those Canadians would have feared the thought of rooting for their team in YS....  How do we let a bunch of Molson swilling, Bryan Adams loving, donut eating turds take over our house?

At the beginning of the season if you told me that the Yankees would have a 7 game lead at the end of July I probably would have laughed. What we are seeing now is much more in line with my excpectations going into the season.

And if anyone told you a 300 to 1 underdog would win the US Open you would be hysterical Wink

You have to come to play with a winning attitude. Something I didn't see against Toronto.

The pitching is really what let us down against Toronto ... once they put you in a hole the way they did in two of the games, it's very hard to come back.  I was much more upset about losing yesterday's first game of the doubleheader ... again the pitching didn't help us ... but we were in on the game until the end.

Everybody would have laughed. They're pretty much where I thought they'd be, contending for a wildcard spot. That doesn't stop me from being upset that they've blown the divison though.

More appropriate question - where is the talent?

They are getting their a**es handed to them by a team with talent.

Wait a minute.

The last two years this team won 84 and 85 games.

We fans have said we wanted them to rebuild with youth.

Well, when you do that, other teams will take over, and be more talented, for a period of years.

What do you think Blue Jays' fans have been saying for the last 10 years or so?

F rebuilding and youth, I am on record for calling for a 500M payroll....  You build with free agents - over paid 30 something's win more championships than yoots....

We let Celine Deion take over Vegas. This country has gone soft. Get your act in gear El Presidente.

My attitude means nothing. I was just tempering my expectations so that I wouldn't need blood pressure medicine when the team we are seeing now showed up. All year I have been on Drew's case. I couldn't believe he didn't get cut out of spring training. I kind of figured that the Yankees running him out there everyday was in a way conceding the season.

And that's my real frustration. We are still in it albeit by a slim margin and with the game on the line they STILL run Drew out there while there are clrealy better options on the bench. It makes absolutely no sense what so ever. The odds of Drew getting a hit in a big spot off a tough pitcher is about 1/100. He's piled up his pathetic slash line and a couple HR's against pathetic pitching.
