Did anyone hear What Michael Kay asked MLB Commissioner Yesterday?

Yesterday (Saturday) during the Seattle, Yankee Game, Kay is talking with Rob Manfred MLB Commissioner, and they are talking about Jackie Robinson and the new documentary and Robinson's problems breaking the color barrier in  Baseball, and then I couldn't believe what Michael Kay asked the Commissioner.

He said to him that in today's game Blacks in the MLB are only 8%, and "What are we doing to fix that"

I couldn't believe that. Does Kay or anyone today, think that teams would not sign a player who has the potential to be a MLB player, just because he is an African American? Is he for real. What the hell kind of question is that?

And what if anything does MLB have to do to fix something that is not broken. Is this jerk Kay saying they are still discriminating and are racist. Unreal.

Does he think MLB should have a quota when drafting and signing players to get more African American's in the game? What world is Michael Kay living in. I honestly don't understand his question, and I surely don't understand the Commissioner answering it with these off the wall stats like they are trying to fix it.

Just wondering if anyone else was taking back by that question yesterday, or am I over reacting?

Sounded like a softball toss to me. Manfred, and Selig before him, seem have a special focus on the issue of African Americans in MLB. I always figured for Selig it was the focus of his generation...but it seems pretty dated now. Manfred pointed out that there are about the same percentage of African American kids playing baseball in MLB as there are in the general population. The fact is that Latin players are moving out a lot of US kids...based on merit.

MLB should be supporting youth baseball a lot more than it does but that is a whole other issue.

Tony, it's not that baseball isn't signing black players. Kay's point was that black players are showing less interest in playing baseball and Kay's question what can baseball do about that.

Drop of the puck, my phone is off. No talking, no texting, not watching anything else. Got my Ranger Jersey on, Ranger hat on, and Ranger playoff banner on the wall.

I'm concerned about the lack of Whites in the NBA and NFL.

I'm concerned about the lack of Blacks in the NHL, NASCAR and the PGA.

It keeps me up at night. The fact that Hostess started selling Twinkies again helps a little.
