Before his elbow acted up he was damn near unhitfable and he's been pretty damn good since then overall too. 3.32 ERA this year should probably have about 15 wins. Career 3.22 ERA 17 games over .500 and he's just now going into his prime. Look at the money for pitchers going around, his is a more than fair contract for his production

Top 10 in almost every important category for a SP. He's 26, he's part of the solution.

While it would be nice to have a completely unhittable pitcher, Tanaka has been more than human since the injury.

His ERA for the month of August is 5.11 and in June it was 4.12.

Tanaka is uneven since his injury, leading some, myself amongst them, questioning whether he is babying his arm.

Not saying we don't know what to expect with him, but it certainly isn't what it was when he first came over, he appeared in absolute control of the game.

Haven't seen that from him since.

I like tanaka. Criminally is a tad strong.  Ask yourself how you feel about him in a big game.  Last October he gave us exactly what I expected and it was a nice effort but hardly ace material.  And this year it seems every time a big effort would help us he came up either small or average.

I agree Loon. He's good. Being paid to be great. No doubt the elbow is the reason.

I'm not going to judge him on one start in the playoffs. Hopefully he will have plenty more opportunities

He had 2 outta 5 bad starts in June which will always spike your ERA. And he's only had 2 starts in August... He pitches a good game or better 70% of the time.. That's an ace, as well as his top 10 in every important category.

Tanaka is one of the best in the game. Amazing how he adapted to his injury. If something is working he adjusts. I wouldn't say he is holding back so much as woking within his physical limitations created by his injury. We all have to do this as out body's break down. The only problem with Tanaka is one of these day -could be next week or 5 years from now- his elbow is going to blow up.

Before his injury he was no doubt as advertised.  I am more than happy w him and I hope he's here for the next 10 years. It's just a damn shame nobody can stay healthy anymore. Joba, Hughes, both showed promise of dominance and then injury. Same w Tanaka.  Now Kapriellian.  It's enough to drive ya nuts.

Its b/c these young guys are all abt velocity....if Catfish were alive today, he'd change that philosophy. Take Harvey....his careercould be all but finished.
