No, Betances did. The difference is, most managers have closets who stop the bleeding, not cause it. Betances has been trash this year, period end of story.

you're wrong, this is on girardi and here's why. its on girardi because he saw the other team running around the bases and he saw betances had nothing to offer. Now, where you would be right is if he brought in betances to pitch to one batter and the batter that he pitched to won the game for the bad guys. girardi had plenty of time to see 'this isnt working' and make a switch.

this is typical of managers who say 'you're the 7th inning guy, you're the 8th inning guy and you're the 9th inning guy' if you have your guy for 'his inning' you don't change that formula, you let your 9th inning guy pitch the 9th and if he loses, you say 'oh well' and get them next time.

girardi didn't manage to WIN he managed so as to have an out if he lost. "betances has been our guy, i had faith in him" period, end of story

BUT, if he takes betances out and brings in john doe and john blows the game with betances sitting on the bench, you have much less of an 'excuse' you can get 2nd guessed more if you make a change from 'your 9th inning guy'.

what girardi did would be like watching a car crash victim laying on the side of the road bleeding to death and just standing there hoping the bleeding stops on its own.

lefty Miller can hold down runners, unlike Betances...no calling for pitch-outs is crazy too.

That  relief pitcher we used to have, I think his name was Rivera wasn't very good at holding on base runners but he had a pretty good career. Betances will be all right, he's just been over used a bit and his curve has flattened out.

Hev to agree with Bronxzoo. This was 100% Girardi not being a good manager throughout the game. Getting too cute. 3rd day in a row with Betances, who also blowed v the Dodgers. Girardi, didn't blow the Dodger game. But blew this game. Tanaka, could easily have stayed in for the 8th, he put on a clinic, and Warren the 9th. Backed up by either Layne or Blake, if Warren had got into trouble in the 9th.

Giradi, blew it by himself. Not the 1B blue who missed the checked swing on Ramirez.  This really sucks, probably end of Wild Card and division hopes right here.

The Managers fault today, not the team..

Even if it was on Girardi today, he did not put the team in this position.  They did it themselves.  Funny, though, how all the Girardi bashers come out after a tough loss, but they are nowhere to be found when the team is playing well.  Just sayin'.....   nc

Girardi = Too much thinking...

We had this game in the bag, Joe overmanaged, he should have left Layne in the game, if you can't trust a pitcher with a three run lead and one out, why start the inning with him..

Just one other thing, last nights use of Betances just broke his spirits for the rest of the year, this guy is shell shocked and Girardi did it to him... We also had the Red Sox not feeling good about themselves, now they are on cloud nine and will kick our butts out of town and our season will be over, mark my words... It's over... Last nights game was a huge swing game and we had momentum, but now we have a closer that's head is gone, and again, Joe's to blame...

+1.   Some people here just don't get it. Mo never blew a save right?

And the expectations here after July were pretty low anyhow.

The ump squeezed him on Ortiz and blew the appeal on Ramirez. That being said, Betances had a rough 2 days.
