If the Marlins are after Chapman, not only do they have the advantage of no state tax in FL, but the Marlins also have the advantage of the huge Cuban community in Miami.

As reported....

The Yankees have spoken to the ChiSox about David Robertson. I assume he’s a backup plan should Chapman and Jansen fall through. The White Sox are rebuilding, and obviously the Yankees know Robertson and are comfortable with him. [Sweeny Murti]

Always proud to be a Yankee fan.

Personally, Id acquire Robertson AND sign Chapman. First, assume Chapman costs $20 Mil per year (estimating high)

Clippard has 1 year left on his deal for $6.5 Mil. Robertson has 2 years left on his deal for $13 Mil in 2017 and $15 Mil in 2018. Both of them would be off the books in time for the Super FA Class in the winter of 2018.  Healey also will come off the book then too and Gardner could come off the books then as well if the Yankees decline Gardner's 2019 option.

So the Yankees could unload all that money off the book at the perfect time.

Yes, the bullpen would cost the Yankees probably $40 Mil in 2017 but after 2017 the Yankees immediately free up $46 Mil by CC, Clippard, and Holliday dropping off the books. Then after 2018 you'd drop as much as another $38 Mil off the book by getting rid of Robertson, Headley, and Gardner if his option is declined.

They need to be below the luxury tax threshold before that FA class not after... Right now they are at 149 million pre arb.

Yankees arent doing anything big with these prices til after next season, why are we shocked?.

Signing a top Closer would be big. I expect the Yankees to sign one of the top Closers and another relief pitcher. The Yanks are going to need a deep pen with their starting rotation because of Tanaka's elbow, CC is a year older, Pineda pitches like the weather, he goes from hot to cold pitch by pitch. Plus, it seems like the Yankees want 2 of their young Pitchers to fill out the rest of the starting rotation, which usually means those Pitchers will be on a pitch count.

Tanaka went an entire season without an elbow issue and still we don't hear the end of "Tanaka's elbow".  It's FREAKING HEALED.

Really? Do you see him throwing as hard as he did before he went on the DL with elbow problems?

In fact, YES he is.  In the 2014 season (pre-injury), his average FB velocity was 92.74 mph.  In 2016, it was 92.01 mph.  Sorry to interject facts into your clueless argument.

What the heck are you talking about clueless? He's throwing less fastballs. I didn't ask you what his FB velocity was. I asked you if he was throwing as hard as he was before he went on the DL. He's not, he's throwing more braking pitches. You should know that by watching him pitch, but here's a chart for you.
