Choi did well.  The Yankees could use his lefty power.  It would be nice to have that lefty power potential around as an option.  Frazier is an upgrade on what we had at first base, but he's a right-handed hitter, and our lineup has a strong righty imbalance.  Just look at today's lineup - against a righty pitcher (Berrios), the Yankees are starting Cooper, a righty, at 1st, along with Torreyes and Romine.

Headley has no power.  Frazier, Cooper, C.Frazier, etc. are all right handed hitters.  The only lefties we have in the lineup now are Gardner, Ellsbury, and Didi, and Ellsbury has no power.  I would have rather seen the Yanks pick up a lefty option at 1st base - like Alonso or Duda.  Or just keep Choi.

If they are going to platoon headley with cooper, than it makes sense to get rid of the lefty choi. Headley s numbers when battling left are actually not bad. When batting right handed, his numbers are horrible. Which is why they are possibly keeping cooper as a right handed option.
