Maybe management can convince him to fake a year ending injury...for the good of the team! LOL

also ells is owed approx $75mil compared to about $50mil for sandoval. admittedly the red sox punting on sandoval was a bitter pill for them but no way the yanks punt on ells w/ that much left.

on the other hand, frazier has shown he belongs and it would be a shame for him to go down when hicks returns. maybe ells should give papi a call to see if he can cop of some of papi's magic juice :-)

The Ellsbury situation is more about what others are doing, not what he's doing or not doing compared to a guy that the Red Sox released.

Judge      .312 AVG   1.076 OPS    31 HR's    68 RBI's     6 SB's (92 Games)

Gardner   .254 AVG    .797 OPS     16 HR's    43 RBI's   12 SB's (89 Games)

Hicks       .290 AVG    .913 OPS     10 HR's    37 RBI's     7 SB's (60 Games)

Frazier     .298 AVG    .944 OPS       3 HR's     8 RBI's      0 SB's (13 Games)

Ellsbury    .249 AVG   .685 OPS        4 HR's   17 RBI's    11 SB's (59 Games)

Pretty easey to see that Hicks outperformed Ellsbury before getting hurt and Frazier is on pace to easily out pace him with more playing time. If you want to put the best team on the field right now (or when Hicks gets back) Jacoby Ellsbury doesn't belong on the field. Furthermore, at 33 years of age this is not something that is likely to turn around. The upside with Ellsbury is clearly in the rear view mirror and spent in the ugliest piece of laundry in MLB.

I've been a big Hicks fan since him being with the Twins, I know he never had great numbers even with the Twins, but he has put together a pretty good year this year.. But in saying this, he might be the easiest to move in a deal to get a good starter.. He's a switch hitter, great arm and could be the best defensive OF we have, that's all the reason to make room for him, but with all the choices, he might be moved.. Lots of tough calls facing Ca$hman, especially when Hicks comes back..

Red Sox showed us the way when they sent Sandoval to the minors Do the same with Ellsbury, were stuck with the contract, deal with it.. don't cut off your nose to spite your face

Wouldn't the way have been not to overspend on Sandoval to begin with?

Everything you said plus Aaron's age and salary are why the Yankees should value Hicks and endeavor to move Ellsbury.

Moving Hicks as part of a package for a quality starter is complicated by his injury status. Is the real guy the fellow from 2017 or 2016 ? Hopefully he returns, looks like the guy from the start of the season and becomes a piece in getting a solid starter. But circumstances really limit his value right now.

There's not enough time by the deadline.

If I were Cashman I would have Ellsbury, Headley, Frazier, Gardner, and Holiday on the waivers August 1st.
