I agree, LL, and I assume you don't mean Clint Frazier. But unless Cashman goes to more enticing GM pastures after this year, Gardner, for one, is not going anywhere.

He probably will do just that.

Ells needs to  our version of Panda. Headley for the rest of the year or until Bird comes back. Gardner is a leader on the team and Cash still has a man crush on.

We can eat the whole damn contract in exchange for some low level prospects or something.  He isn't going to catch fire anymore.  In fact there has been no aspect of Ellsbury's tenure with the Yankees that has outperformed Gardner's.  It makes no sense to punish yourself over the signing and squander what could be.

Frazier has a while to force the issue assuming Joe keeps playing him (and he should) since Hicks doesn't start baseball activities for 10-12 more days, followed by a rehab assignment. That should give Frazier about 3 weeks to impress and Ellsbury 3 weeks to sink some more.

no doubt the entire ellsbury affair was a major mistake and i'm sure management knows it. like someone said, frazier has 2-3 weeks to present his case and if he does well enough, he forces their hand. ells has negative trade value. even if another team would take him (unlikely), the yankees would be on the hook for most of that contract. so whether traded or released, the team is looking at approx $75 mil remaining down the tubes. a bitter pill indeed. my sense is that they want to give him every chance to regain some semblance of his prior form. he actually was playing pretty well before the concussion. anyway while it may be easy for a fan to say dump him, that's not how management thinks with $75 mil at stake.

You're preaching to the choir LL. The Yanks should do the same with Headley.

Ellsbury is better than Cano experts on here used to say.  Wish they had spent that fortune on Cano instead of Ellsbury, at least it would of been on a home grown Yank anda Red Sox killer.

Nobody said he was better then  Cano that I recall. It was the years and amount of money Cano wanted. No question he's a much better player then Ellsbury but I still wouldn't want that contract. He's going to be 35 in Oct. and after this year he will have 6 more guanteed years on his contract.I don't think anybody takes that contract off their hands either.

From what I remember it was Choo vs Ellsbury. Both bad contracts. I wanted Ellsbury but I was wrong. Not over Choo just a bad signing. Those against said you don't sign speed guys at that age for that long. I thought he would still hit decent. He's still fast. Just not productive. They were right.
