WTH?
It has nothing to do with not wanting to trade with the Mets.
It is being claimed Cashman offered 2 lower level prospects . But, Hal wanted the Mets to eat 3 million of the remaining 4 million.
Apparently , Hal said no to adding payroll.
Why would Cashman even. Contact. Alderson ?
I know C. Frazier went on  the DL . But, Hicks is back and if they need a 4th outfielder, they could use Wade.
So Kay was going off on how this could hurt the Yankees, if Bruce does well for the Indians..

Gardner, Hicks, Ellsbury, Judge = 4 outfielders..

It's more to do with the Mets not wanting to trade with us unless we pay extra...

Cleveland has a better record than the Yanks so Yanks could have claimed him off waivers.  I guess the worry was Mets would simply dump Bruce and his remaining salary which Yanks didn't want to take on.  Reasonable given the logjam in the OF especially before Frazier got hurt.

I hear you Rob but that lefty power bat in the middle of the lineup at the Stadium would have looked sweet

It doesn't matter what they do at this point.

Bruce would have been the DH.  With Holliday out and struggling, Jay Bruce would actually have been a perfect fit.  That's why Cashman tried to acquire him.  He recognizes the limitations of the Yankee lineup and he knows we need a lefty power bat.

But the combination of Hal not wanting to pick up some of Bruce's salary (Rosenthal is reporting that the Yanks would have only needed to pick up $1 million of the $4.7 million remaining) and the Mets really not wanting to trade with the Yankees unless absolutely necessary, killed any hope of a deal.

As we saw tonight, the Yankees could have really used Jay Bruce in the lineup.  We were shut down by another middle of the road righthanded pitcher - the fifth time this has happened in the last two weeks.  And instead of Bruce, it looks like a combination of Ellsbury and Cooper/Headley will be DHing.

Ellsbury, Cooper and Headley (our DH options now) have combined for 10 home runs this year.  Bruce has 29.  And if you DH Sanchez, then you are basically using Romine in that spot.  Romine is not Jay Bruce.

You can only make a deal if the other side wants to deal with you !!! Pretty simple, I doubt the Mets wanted to do any deal with us, unless they fleeced us in that deal..
