No surprise really... Nick Bird's an injury waiting to happen!

What next...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't we still have Garrett Cooper? That kid can hit! Who says our first baseman has to be a lefty? I say platoon him with Headley at first, and we'll be fine!

We need a lefty bat.  Cooper isn't a MLB player.

He played great when they played him. He's proven himself to be a major league player...in fact, a lot more than Bird has so far this season!

AS long as the Yankees have a good first baseman, that's all it matters. Bird can take sweet time for all I care right now. He's only making 500k, so it's no big blow.

For the guy who wanted nothing to do with first base, Headley has been our best first baseman this season, while Todd Frazier has been doing a very good job for us at 3rd.  As a Yankee, Frazier has hit 8 homeruns for us; has an OBP of over .350; and he has played very good defense. That's not bad at all.

Cocopuffs,

For one thing, NW is right when he said the Yankees need a lefty bat. THAT'S OBVIOUS.

Second, Cooper hasn't played great. He has only played well.  Plus, the sample size is extremely small as for anyone to make a credible judgment on Cooper.

Seriously, you can't see why we need a lefty bat, Cocopuffs? It's called lineup balance.  Not because of the short rightfield porch at Yankee Stadium, but because it effects how the opposing manager handles his bullpen.

Isn't this supposed to be Baseball 101?

Bird hasn't proved he's a major league player either ?? He has to show he can stay on the field, he seems to have bad luck, like the old saying," if I didn't have bad luck, I'd have no luck at all"... I just have a gut feeling his career might be just that way ?? Hope I"m wrong...

Excuse me Brat, but I was changing your diapers when Baseball 101 was invented. If you want to know why the Yankees haven't been going very far lately, look for the missing switch hitter in the lineup to take the place of BERNIE WILLIAMS (maybe you've heard of him). Now that flash in the pan Aaron Hicks has been exposed as being the .230 hitter he's always been, maybe Cash can go back to the drawing board looking for another SW to instill some fear in opposing managers. As for Cooper, you can jump all over him as much as you like for being a righty, but combining his time at triple A along with his stink with the Yankees this year, he's proven all he needs to prove, that he will be a future major leaguer, if not with the Yankees, then definitely with some other team. In fact, he didn't break down at all in his time with the Yankees the way Nick Johns, er Greg Bird has, so I would say he made his time with the team much more memorable at first base. For now though, since it's obvious by that weak fly ball that Bird hit yesterday, that he is once again not playing at 100%, this leaves the option for Girardi on who to play at 1B come playoff time, as the same guy who has been there pretty much the secong half of this season, Chase Headley, who is more than adequate to do the job at first base, plus being a switch hitter, they can always platoon him at 1B with Mr. MRI, if Joe should become desparate.
