I'm not into being overly politically correct; however, that was insulting and childish.

Mo, it was, indeed, very stupid and very childish and he will get his ass chewed out for it and, worse, he is now being embarrassed in front of millions of people.  Then, again, he is a 20 some year old man doing what comes natural at his age.  When he gets to be as old as you and I, he will be a whole lot smarter.  I did many very stupid things in my 20s and fortunately, for me,  millions of people did not witness them.  It just ****es me off where everything has to be so politically correct these days.

He needs to be chewed out big time and made to publically apologize which I believe he has already done.  If he pulls anything like that again, he needs to be fined for the behavior.  He embarrassed his whole team and made them look like jerks.  After that, everyone needs to just get over it.

I pretty much agree with your take on it ... as far as I'm concerned the entire team is too arrogant .... he took it to the extreme.

It was stupid, for sure, but, in the end, what matters is how he plays baseball.  I have a bigger issue with this whole political correctness issue pervading every aspect of our lives.  Does anyone other than me think that getting a lip reader to translate what he said is a bit overboard.  These are 20 some year old men not polished diplomats and he was having what he thought was a private conversation.  We live in a "gottcha world" where everyone is looking trip someone up.  Gurriel is a great athlete; now he needs to grow some brains.  He will be more careful henceforth.

Could not disagree more. Any kind of vulgar or obscene behavior is just cause for disciplining someone who is paid to entertain folks on national television. I don't tread into "political" conversation here, but this is the World Series and I am sure that hundreds of thousands of Japanese baseball fans watched Yu Darvish pitch. Great way to sell the product Gurriel.

Good info, Mo.  It looks like he will pay for his childishness.  I think 5 games is a bit much but so be it.  Three games would have seemed more appropriate for the first offense but, then, we are talking political correctness, here.   The team IS arrogant, for sure.  I can't argue with you there.  I still like them.  I think in sports arrogance is part of the show they put on - even though it is not a good thing and I agree with you.  Remember Mohamid Ali way back when with "I am the greatest."  Absolutely obnoxious but I think on some level it sells crowds and garners attention.  The fans are eating up their arrogance and that probably translates to money.

He should've been suspended for the World Series.

Why, exactly, do you think he apologized?  It was not a "private conversation."  It was clearly aimed directly at Darvish and Darvish rightly took it as such.

realglen,

Yeah, I have since changed my mind.  It was not a private conversation and it was out of line.  His boss is likely super ****ed at him right now as are other team members.  That will be a bigger punishment than the suspension.  The only issue I now have is that I think 5 games was excessive.  Three would be more like it  Five is what the guy got for starting a fist fight with Rohine which in my opinion is worse.  Physical fighting trumps verbal fighting, at least in my opinion.
