I think Cashman is looking for a yes man. No pun intended.

General manager Brian Cashman decided the New York Yankeesshould part ways with Joe Girardi because he felt that the manager's "connectivity" with the clubhouse was not good enough.

That is the sort of nothing statement one makes when they don't want to tell you the real reason.  It is a say nothing, warm and fuzzy thing to say.  Another say nothing remark - commonly used - is "we are moving in a different direction."  Basically it boils down to we don't want to tell you our reason because we are not sure how that reason might come across..................so we will hedge our bets and say something which sounds benign.

Most likely the truth is "we paid you 4 mil per year and we wanted xyz in return.  We did not get it so we are giving someone else a shot to see if he can do it."  Most of us won't make that much money in a lifetime, never mind in12 months and then for multiple years in a row.  With that much money on the table, one has to deliver the goods.  I really think it is that simple.  Who knows whether someone else can deliver but the owners  won't know unless they try.  They now they are not getting it with Girardi.  Team owners want WS contests and preferably WS wins.  They know they can't have them every year but he did not deliver enough of them.  Yankees won WS in 2009 and then jack ___ ever since.  That is a long time ago.  When you are making 4 mil to produce, that record is simply not good enough.  Remember the old saying "What have you done for me lately?"
