Stories online claim that Otani is very close to Darvish...and both are free agents. Would you consider signing Darvish if that is what it took to get Otani ?

No question they will go after him. He will be pretty cheap until he's 25, and they have the international money to get him. As much as anyone so the determining factor for Ohtani won't be money, but a place of prestige and marketability. NY is that (and LA but I don't think they have as much international loot)!

Haven't we learned from our mistakes and everyone else's?  Never pay top dollar for a Japanese suspect.

Well, considering Nomo, Kuroda, and maybe Darvish (jury still out) are the only Japanese pitchers ever to have a moderate level of success, any dollar is top dollar.  I'd offer him nothing more than a minor league contract and let him pitch at AAA and prove that he can pitch.

I'm  sure there are teams that will offer much more than a minor  league offer .
