They will get under it this offseason but might spend a little and still have room to add at the trade deadline.

Need to find a way to unload Ellsbury, Bradley, Gardner or Castro.

We are already short a couple of starters. No way I part with MLB ready pitching prospects for a left handed DH, even a good one. Maybe if the Cubs wanted a different kind of deal I'd listen better. With Torres, Estrada, Wade and Andujar in the organization, I am not sure if the field is big enough for all of them. But I need the pitching as much as the Cubs do and I have the same goals this year that they have.

I agree about having the same goal as the Cubs but I don't think Chance Adams is the guy that put's us over the top. Shwarber might

I believe Chance Adams and Justice Sheffield are the real deal, you dont deal them for a guy coming off a bad year. I mean a bad year where he hit 30 home runs but yea a bad year. A package centered around Betances and lesser prospects is what I would do, there is also this,

Hal Steinbrenner: “We will be active in the free agent market.”

Bet on this. Hal will do NOTHING that will keep the Yankees from getting under the luxary tax level. NOTHING

New,  One other consderation, Betances is looking at a raise to about $4.4 mil in arbitration.  That is not nothing for a team committed to getting under the luxury tax.  Shed that salary and maybe a Cobb for the rotation at $16 mil AAV becomes more of a possibility.

I think Hal Is saying they Intend to spend a Significant Ammount of Money. What you guys are not getting Things changed when we got to with in one game of the WS that wasnt supposed to happen and now the team intends to compete. where in there original plan was to rebuild for 2 years then compete. Winning in 2017 changed the plan...

it changed no plan with regards to the luxary tax. They will get under the 197 payroll limit

Hals tweet says otherwise.

remember also guys we dont need a whole lot, a starting pitcher or two and a DH really how much will that cost? and trades have to be factored in to our off season plans, lets see how creative Cashman can get?

I think Hal is getting under the cap this year. The new tax laws will hurt the Yankees because of the New York tax structure. If the Yankees hope to compete for an elite free agent next year, they have to get under the cap this year and get a reset.

Schwarber coming off a bad year... Does anyone remember at the end of last year how bad Betances was ?? I know he had pretty good numbers for the season, but that was only because he was lights out for a while... He started to fall apart when Joe moved him to the closer's role after Chapman got hurt, from then on it seemed Betances lost his control and was plan pathetic at the end of the season... I think Betances will need to put together a good spring, if so, his trade value will go up ??

I still would like to see the Yankees trade Castro, and make a push for the KC third baseman, he would add defense along with 30 plus HR's, and hopefully they can find someone to take one of Headley/Ellsbury, I know we'd have to eat some of Ellsbury's money but it would be worth it, then Torres could come up and play second base.. I think the money would still be under the luxury amount...

My interest in Schwarber would be dependent upon one question.  Could he be developed into a viable backup catcher?  He could be a great lefty DH for us if he could give us depth in an area of need rather than left field
