Apparently we're having "a little squabble" with China. That's reassuring.

My guess is that he will also try to downplay inflation if the trade war continues.

Trump Trade War Just Raised Taxes On Consumers By Tens Of Billions of Dollars

The president keeps falsely claiming that China is paying his higher tariffs, but economists point out that Americans, not China, pay those costs.

Working class cons have no worries.  So what... a $100 or more increase is doable in purchasing home appliances. They are willing to make the necessary sacrifice in order to keep Trump in the WH.

Those farmers who voted for Trump are jubilant beyond compare... eager to get their soybean crops planted.

The farmers are justifiably incensed.  Their grain is rotting on the ground while Trump flops around like a boated fish on trade policy.  Then he adds insult to injury by referring to "patriotic farmers" (the ones who aren't complaining at the top of their lungs).  Hmmm..."patriotic farmers"...I think he got that line from the Russkies...like "The Great Patriotic War" label back in the day.

What the trade war also risks is the relationship that US farmers have with China. For example: China will now get their soybeans from another country. So no one can guarantee that if and when the US-China trade war ends that China will go back to buy certain products like soybeans from US farmers.

A FAIRTAX type system that subjects imports to the same tax burdens as domestic products and exports our goods tax free would resolve this beyond China's ability to retaliate.  I am not sold on the tariffs.
