Never saw much in him to begin with and now I've seen enough to be done with him, he does not even come close to deserving to play over Torreyes.. and we really need to get Torres up asap

I returned a thread about Didi that ran at the start of his Yankee career just to remind everyone how dumb it is to assess a young player this early in the season. The fact is that Didi was both older and had more major league experience than Wade has when that thread started. I guess we are all pretty happy with our shortstop today. Let's hope Wade rewards our patience the way Didi repaid us.

Didi wasn't nearly as bad as Wade has been at the beginning of his Yankees career. At least offensively. And even though Didi wasn't overall good offensively for the D-Backs he did show some flashes that he could be decent offensively at least against right handed pitching. But I don't think anybody thought he would develop into the offensive player he has become. The only area where Didi still has some issues is with his base running.

Wade is an entirely different story. We are only talking 89 official at bats over two years but the early signs are not good. .135 for a position player even though the sample size is small might be historically bad. .135 would be bad even for a pitcher. I am not going to write him off completely but the longer he struggles to this degree the chances keep increasing he is going to be one of those players who will never be able to make the jump from Triple A to the majors. Also he has struck out in about one third of his at bats which is totally unacceptable for a player who is not a power hitter. He probably needs to go down to Triple A to try to find himself but the problem is we are so short on infielders the Yankees can't really do anything until they are ready to bring up Gleybar Torres which is probably going to be sooner rather than later.

But sometimes it takes a little time for a young player to figure it out. The best recent example of that is Aaron Judge in 2016. A lot of people wanted to write him off after that season even though we were talking less than 100 at bats. Thank goodness the Yankees didn't. His power potential was too great to give up on him after that small of a sample size.

But they were talking on WFAN how almost every young player the Yankees have brought up over the last few seasons made a positive impact very quickly. And they also pointed out you are not going to hit on every one of them. I hope not but maybe Wade is going to be one who is going to be a complete bust.I am not sure the Yankees ever thought of Wade as an everyday player. I think they thought of him more as a super utility player who could play a lot of positions. Similar to Brock Holt of the Red Sox. But to be able to have a major league career even as a utility player he is going to have to hit a lot more than he has done so far in the majors. Right now he hits like a pitcher.

Boone on the reports he's gotten so far on Torres: "He’s off to a pretty good start. He’s getting a lot of hits, I don’t think swinging great yet necessarily but he’s been productive."

I think Sanchez is hitting 132 tonight...after a big game on Wednesday. Send him down ?

Wade might be pressing and certainly cooled off from a great spring. I don't think anyone projects him to be a 300 hitter at this level. His strength is his defense. But the focus on him given all the bad play from this team is unwarranted.

Yes it does.  Not sure if Wade will turn out the same, but give him a chance.

He'll get a chance b/c Cashman prefers him to Torreyes, who I think also deserves a decent chance to be the regular 2B. How long before they stop relegating Torreyes to second string? He's young, too.
