Stanton is the same player as Judge. Ellsbury is the same player as Gardner. Neither is homegrown, getting neither makes sense. So of course the Yankees got both.

Pretty terrible consolation prize for Ohtani telling the Yankees no thanks. He'll win ROY, MVP and Cy Young the way it looks.

Le sigh. maybe one day the Yankees will be great again.

I think I get where you are going with this. The Yankees need to find another Gary Sanchez so they can split the workload while filling the inevitable void of Bird and Austin injuires at 1B. They desperately need two more Didi Gregorius’s to man 2B & 3B. Then they need to find 4 more Luis Severinos.

LL, as for the Bird/Austin injuries or whatever, why not promote Mike Ford for god's sake. Doesn't he deserve a serious look-see, having hit 20 homers last year at AAA (two the other night in 2018), done passably well at the Seattle spring camp (after they claimed him briefly), and is hitting well at SWB as both the 1B and DH? I never hear mention of him when, to me, at least, it's clear he should be given the chance. Last year Cashman opted for Choi, the journeyman, non-Yankee player, when we lost our 1b and when he could've given Ford a shot. Maybe they think he can't handle major-league pitching, but I bet if Denbo were still running the minor-league show for us, he'd have recommended Ford's promotion at least to the 40-man by now. He just might be as good as if not better than the much-hyped Bird to play 1B for us. Maybe not, I agree, but still, he deserves a full shot.

I don’t disagree with you but don’t think the timing is right for Ford.  Austin hasn’t been terrible in his chances so I think he needs to be given a shot.  The Yankees still want to get Walker right but Austin is the hotter hand now.  The Yankees could give Ford the spot of Heller on the 40 man but he would have to go out there and wow.  At this point he would be the first DFA exposed to waivers if they needed that slot.  Right now he is serving the role of insurance because Bird can not be counted on.

No one is going to defend the Ellsbury deal, but the Stanton acquisition is a much tougher argument. Subtract Stanton and the Yankees have about $10 M in cap space plus Starlin Castro to play in the infield. Where do you go next ?

We need only young and exciting home grown players, talent doesn't matter, extend Tyler Wade to 2034....
