With the Browns taking Mayfield, I assumed they'd trade down since Darnold was available.

The Mara's are comfortable with Manning in the years ahead..choosing a running back Barkley to complement Eli..providing a running game..Eli should be overjoyed.

Prospect Profile: Saquon Barkley

Mel Kiper Jr. explains why Saquon Barkley is so explosive.

Pre-Draft Analysis

The top prospect on our board, Barkley projects as an every-down back with the elite talent and intangibles to become a franchise-changing player. He's gifted enough to emerge as an All-Pro caliber player early in his career.

Post-Draft Analysis

Barkley is our top-ranked prospect and fills a pressing need for the Giants, who ranked 26th in rushing yards per game and 22nd in rushing yards per carry in 2017. Look for Pat Shurmur and Mike Shula to maximize Barkley's rare natural ability. He should take some pressure off Eli Manning and free up their talented pass-catchers by forcing defenses to respect the run. He'll make an immediate impact as a receiver and blocker, too.

Pick

2

New York

Giants

Saquon Barkley

RB | Penn State

Forget finding Eli Manning’s replacement at quarterback—whoever that is might not play for another three years. This Giants club two years ago won the NFC East. New GM Dave Gettleman was brought in to build on a ready-now team, and a once-in-a-generation running back can help that. The Giants now have the dynamic ballcarrier to redefine what has lately been an atrocious ground game. New head coach Pat Shurmur did a great job in Minnesota marrying his running game and passing game. Barkley can help in both areas, and an erudite QB like Manning can check him in and out of the best plays accordingly.

Scouting Report: Evaluators told our Albert Breer that Barkley is a better prospect than Ezekiel Elliott was two years ago, and one team told Peter King that Barkley was the fifth prospect in the past 20 years to have received a perfect grade from them. Barkley is a true workhorse back who would be a first-round prospect solely on his ability as a runner. Add in his passing-game skills—think Le’Veon Bell, a big back who has the ability to create separation when lined up as a receiver—and he’s custom-built for the modern NFL.

Draft Prospect Outlook:

Rare flexion and smoothness as an athlete, particularly for a running back his size. Some cuts are reminiscent of Barry Sanders. Has elite downfield speed to hit home runs. Best on the outside though he's not terrible between the tackles. Has plenty of power too. Dynamic running back prospect.

College Recap:

One of the greatest players ever to don a Penn State uniform began as a 247Sports Composite four-star Pennsylvania recruit once committed to Rutgers. As a freshman, Barkley quickly took over the starting job and rushed to a 1,000-yard season. The following year, he became the centerpiece of the Nittany Lions' attack and amassed nearly 1,900 yards of total offense and 20 touchdowns. Barkley's punctuation mark was an all-time great 79-yard touchdown run in the Rose Bowl, widely regarded as one of the best plays in the game's 104-year history.

Now chasing the Heisman trophy, Barkley added kick return duties to his plate and brought two kickoffs back for touchdowns in 2017. While teams loaded up against the run, Barkley still churned out a 5.9 yards-per-carry average and nine touchdowns on top of 54 catches and three receiving touchdowns. He finished his career with dozens of program records and multiple first-team All-American selections. Barkley declared for the draft on New Year's Eve, one day after a 175-yard and two-touchdown performance in the Fiesta Bowl. - Andrew Callahan, Lions247

Pretty happy with this pick. Takes pressure off Eli. Opens it up more for Beckham. Barkley should get over 20 touches a game.

Hopefully Webb has talent  so not taking a QB doeant come back to bite them.

Now hopefully get some decent OL in the draft.

Barkley was also the best player of the entire draft too -- well, Chubbs might have been on his level, too.

Absolutely the right pick.

Now get Hernandez at 34 or Landry. Both still there

Reese would have screwed up, and picked Darnold.
