I still think Bird is one of the keys to a championship this year. His start has been disappointing. Again, he hasn't had long stretches of UNinjured play over the last 3 years, so perhaps the time it's taken should have been expected.

Also, I'm not sure he's 100% yet. His swing is sweet though.

I like his defensive play. His base running is much better than last year. He's made some very tough foul ball catches sliding into the barrier. His stretch last night for a wide throw was 1st class! TEX was injured several times and we stuck with him.

I hope the Yanks stick with Bird. We'll see.

I hope Bird can shake these damn injuries, so we can see what he can be.  I've seen the flashes, then the injuries, then the excruciatingly long recovery... rinse, repeat.     Hope for health!!!

Yea Davis. A good full season would be nice but I'll take a strong finish for now.

As long as he gets through it healthy.

And a normal spring next year.

Jim I agree with you 100%. I thought this forum was for Yankee fans to express their opinions. But the problem is if you express your opinions and people disagree you will be attacked and called a troll. And there are people here who will go after anybody who says anything negative at all about the Yankees. Yesterday there were a bunch of people who went after me and even though it isn't my style to attack back I felt I had to with one particular person because frankly I had enough. I really am sorry I did it but in this case I felt I had no other choice.

I do think I know my baseball but maybe because I might be a lot older than a lot of the other people who post here maybe I look at things differently. I know you and I both treat people here with respect but this board I think is worse than the old mlb forums. I have always been a straight shooter and unfortunately that gets me into trouble. If I think the Red Sox are better than the Yankees that is my opinion. It doesn't mean I am a Red Sox fan trolling here. Last season I thought the Yankees were better even though they didn't win the AL East. What is going to happen if people don't start treating other people with respect is a lot of good posters will stop posting or there will be a possibility this board will go away just like the mlb boards did.

And I believe it was my right to be ticked off because the Yankees have lost 5 games this season to the Orioles. That is the difference between the Yankees and Red Sox in the standings.

OK I got everything off my chest.

Mike, sometimes we fans, when the Yanks struggle, can get overly emotional and vent that frustration on the message boards. I saw that frequently on the old YMB.

One guy (forget his name) would get ballistic everytime the Yankees gave up a homer, left men on base, made an error, etc. He would get totally hyper and declare that the team stunk, and was going nowhere. The others posters knew the drill with him, lol. Once in a while I replied to him to try and not be so down, and get so upset so much, but usually I read his flaming posts with a degree of amusement.

Regardless, he expressed his views and opinions, as did everyone there. I just simply ignored any threads or posters whom I didn't care for. Might read some, but not comment. Even if I strongly disagree with someone, I won't engage in an argument. I believe in treating all with civility and respect, and do my best to maintain that.

As far as Boston, currently in the standings they are the better team. Doing some things better than our Yankees. But I have honestly felt, and still do, the Yankees overall are better. Starters roughly even; Yankee pen better. Lineup also about even, top spots in Boston's lineup performing somewhat better so far, but Yankee lineup is longer. Bottom of Sox lineup isn't very good imo.

In sum, I believe Boston is playing over its collective heads. I expect some degree of regression to the mean, team-wise, for them.

Lastly, I think the old YMB went away due to all the irksome political threads that kept being created, and the endless rants and replies to them, that were posted, even during baseball season. I was really tired of those, and tried to push them down by posting baseball topics, but to no avail. I don't see that happening here.

Jim that person who you are referring to wasn't me was it? From how you describe this person it sounds like the message board version of Jerome. Do you know who I am referring to? Jerome was somebody who used to call WFAN and go ballistic about his teams. He rooted for the Yankees, Jets and Knicks. But his biggest rants were on the Yankees. He would say things like the Yankees are done and spell out the word done. Or say Cashman better get a pitcher right now or this team will not make the playoffs. So many times Steve Somers had to try to calm him down to get him off the ledge. And one time Jerome said he had no money for a date and Somers being the nice guy he is sent him a check. And guess what. Jerome later on admitted to Somers he kept the money and didn't go out on a date. He was quite a character. But unfortunately I believe he passed away a number of years ago. Some of his rants are on youtube and you might want to check them out if you are looking for a few laughs.

I am not into arguing with people but yesterday after being called a troll by several people and one person told me I knew nothing about baseball I felt I had to fight back and tell that person they are the one who doesn't know anything about baseball. People yesterday were really aggitating me.It is not my style to fight with people but sometimes you feel you have to.

I think you and I pretty much agree about the Red Sox. They have played better than the Yankees have so far and deserve to be in first place and the Yankees do have to improve in a few areas to have a chance to catch them.

And as for political comments there was a Machado thread where people started making racial comments. I wrote a comment on there about Machado and told people the thread had gotten way off topic and to please start talking about Machado.  This sort of reminds me about Kaepernick and the kneeling during the national anthem. At one point they were talking about it 24-7 on WFAN and it got so bad I had to shut off the station because in my mind this isn't sports. Sports is my entertainment and I don't like listening to this becasue it has no effect on the games played on the field. Just my opinion. I want to discuss players and games and not politics. People who want to discuss politics should call WABC and not WFAN.

There is way for you guys to message one another to discuss how unfairly your being treated.

Answer me this mike... why is it you think you can come on here and continually post these long drawn out posts on how much better the Red Sox are, and not irritate people. This a Yankee fan site. You're constantly negative... never showing any faith or belief in this team, which is a very good team. We're Yankee fans enjoying and rooting for our team. You want to make negative coments... you'll get a negative reaction. And now your all sensative....your feelings are hurt. You want respect...try respecting others. Lots of folks on this board, criticize players, the manager, etc. Im not telling you how to be a fan, my suggestion is try be positive once in awhile. This is a good team... it's a long season! Everyone knows You Can Not Predict baseball... enjoy the ride!

Mike, it wasn't you. If I now recall correctly, that person's handle was "Yanksgo8". He would predictably fly off the handle when they Yanks lost, and even during the games if they were not doing well.

I have read all that material about Jerome. I do remember his calls, he was something else.

Correct. Got so crazy I thought it had to be a put on; calling a game a loss after top of 1st...bizarre.

I wonder if Jerome had his phone on speed dial. He certainly never had trouble getting through when calling WFAN. Sometimes you will hear somebody call the station and say they are a first time caller who never could get through before yet some people seem to get through all the time even now. It makes me think whoever mans the switchboard lets certain people get on the air over other people. Jerome's calls certainly were not boring so they might have made sure if he called in he would get on the air. And I don't know if you remember this. On Steve Somers show whenever Jerome was on the line Somers played The Twilight Zone theme song as his introduction.
